Infants of those mothers who smoke weight 200 grams less than those infants whose mothers do not smoke. Is smoking cause of lifelong disabilities? The risks of smoking during pregnancy leads to lifelong disabilities like cerebral palsy, learning issues and mental retardation. Such infants are more likely to die with sudden infant syndrome. The risk of syndrome is three times more than the risk posed by the non smoker mothers.
