Lie flat on a bed (using no pillow) with legs folded off the side of the bed from the knees down. Extend arms above your head and keep them outstretched. Breath in a deep breath and hold....breath out through your mouth. Repeat several times. Then breath normally. Drink of warm water before beginning helps to loosen congestion.

Other than breathing exercises, you might try the headstand...excellent for asthma relief. And also the lateral twist. Find a yoga book in the library for these basic postures. They work. Best of luck.
