| Hi all,
I've had a hamstring tear for 4 months, the recovery has been really hard. It'll be a couple more months before I can even go for a walk pain free. I am just doing a bit of water aerobics now. Do you think i could do bikram with this? Would it be helpful or harmful? I don't want to risk tearing it furthur but I want to try it if it will increase the blood flow (i have poor circulation around it). Thanks! |

| Ain't no way I'd go to Bikram with that tear. I'd wait until I was pain free and feeling normal having done modified stretching/therepy as advised by my doctor. |

| I would agree with Bruce. Practicing Bikram uses the hamstrings a lot. If you have a tear that is actually painful, let it heal first. |

| Here, here! get you doctors clearence before you start any exercise routine. Once he gives the thumbs up, start very, very, very slowly until it feel 100% again. |

| I agree with the three of them you love your practice and you want to keep going but you should wait, get the doctors opinion first. Then it's yoga, yoga, yoga.

| I agree with the Dr. route - but I am a living example that you can be injured and still practice yoga daily. You just have to be fortunate enough to work with an Instructor who knows how to modify postures in order to build up muscles surrounding your injury for support so your target area of pain can heal. In my experience, I have not known any Bikram instructors - who are still teaching Bikram - to offer up modifications to students experiencing pain. They simply suggest not to come to practice until you're pain free.
Don't give up hope - patience and optimism are the best healers sometimes. |
