| does anyone have a photo of this? i am having trouble visualizing it. |

| Strange I couldn't find it either!
This is the best I could do, just image this with the knees bent, feet down ontop of the backside.... as if you were sitting in virasana (on the legs) on the floor.
If you are like me.... don't let the lower back cave in

| I don't understand this. Are you guys just putting names of different poses together like mad libs?
Stop the insanity!
Forgive my sanskrit, but....
If you are in virasana and put your head on the floor in sirsasana, then you've changed the pose to kapotasana. No? If you somehow twist it, then you've got a parsva kapotasana (a bad idea IMHO). Are you with me?

| Yes, easternsun. What twisti wrote is correct = the pose she gave + bent knees to look like sitting viraasana. After all she is twisti!!!
parshva = side, viraasana - sitting with knees folded, shirsha - headstand.
For picture, if I get time I shall post one. Otherwise try Light On Yoga or Dharma Mittra's Asanas.

Different idea all together Yogaguy.
We are talking 'Pasrva Virasana in Sirasana' well at least I am! There is a good picture of it in "Yoga the Iyengar Way" page 105 its part of the sirsasana cycle. |

| I know Geeta Iyengar often refers to inversions with the knees bent, heels toward buttocks as "in virasana" even though it isn't very precise, it gets the message across. Upavista konasana in sirsasana isn't sitting on the floor either but you know it is a wide leg angle, which is the main thing. Just yoga shorthand, I guess |

| no! i didnt make this one up! but i was originally thinking the way that yoga guy is - i was not thinking that the virasana meant - bent knees . i think the word that makes it confusing is IN virasana. that makes me think me head should be down by my knees.
i did not find it in light on yoga (my bible), i also couldnt find any pics on the net....no worries, i understand now BUT does anyone else think the wording could be changed and still mean the same thing?

Parsva Sirsasana is the pose in the photo of BKS, although I understand
from Tourist that he is no longer satisfied with the form of the "young man"
doing the pose...the body should not be bent to one side, only twisted about
its vertical axis.

Not sure about the web site, but the photo first posted is the one BKS calls Parsva Sirsasana.

| I would call both of those parsva sirsasana and the one in the red tights called Eka Pada Parsva Sirsasana -One Legg(ed) Sideways Headstand I would call parsvaikapada (a contraction of parsva eka pada) sirsasana, which is the same thing really but with the descriptors in a different order. There is some fluidity and flexibility in how the poses are named, for sure. I guess it means that Sanskrit is a living language and also appropriate for yogis since flexibility is what we are all about! |

| i know what parsva sirsasana is - i just wanted to see it in virasana. somehow, i had the mental picture of virasana except done to the side, on your head (with head to knees of course)
i have a rather large imagination! well, if anyone wants to try it, bust out the digi cam and post it here for us - that would be great |
