Hey all, I am taking a hiatus for a coupla months. I am leaving for Yogaville and then have some school stuff that needs to be attended to, as well as moving 3000 miles.

I hereby appoint GJ and afroyogi as the evil clowns in my absence.

Take care everyone!

Taking off a couple of months and getting Thai Massage sounds great, especially for your IT band. I was just reading about Yogaville on Rick Ross' website. Well, just be on your guard. I hope you have a great and healing experience.

I challenge AfroYogi to a forum flamewar to the DEATH for the position of head evil clown.  Muhahahahaha!  ;)

FWIW, I've also read some of the yogaville stuff on Rick Ross's site, and I don't think it's all that bad.  My teacher's been there a number of times, and if there were any issues I'm sure she would have said something.  OTOH, it's always wise for a single woman traveling alone to a strange place to be careful.  (Same goes for single guys, but not to the same extent. )

Hi gang.

Just wanted to check in to say that Yogaville was awesome. if they are a cult, they are really very bad at it. Quite frankly, I am a little disappointed that I wasn't invited to any sex parties or cult goings on. there are Swamis that have been there for years and none tryed to brainwash me at breakfast or anything.

I personnaly think Rick Ross is a tool, but whatever.

Yogaville is a great community, if you want to get away for a coupla days to deepen your practice, especially meditation practice. there are several places to meditate and morning and evening programs, pujas, chanting, Gita classes, etc.  it is quite spiritual but that can be a good thing. and the LOTUS temple is amazing. they do a lot for the surrounding county which is one of the poorest in VA., by bringing jobs, tourists, etc. as well as Non denominational charity work. It's also very affordable to go.

"Truth is one. Paths are many'" ~ Swami Satchitananda

take care,

Anya

Ps. what with the arousal thread and the nakedness, Yoga.com should be on the cultwatch website. Keep up the good work!

Gee, where's the fun in that?  I'd ask for my money back if I was you.

Agree/disagree.  I find it hard to decide exactly where he's coming from.  It bothers me greatly that he makes his living "busting" cults, but he does have some good information on his website.  I guess I don't have any problem with people giving out factual information, which is what most of it appears to be, but I do have a problem with people interfering in each other's lives.  I also think he's sincere in what he believes, I just don't agree with him on a lot of things.

Woot!  Always wanted to join a cult!  Who's going to lead us in the ways of brainwashing and group sex?

Good to hear you enjoyed Yogaville.

I don't think any words of caution were to imply that Yogaville is a dangerous cult that's bad for you. I am just cautious of who I am around when I meditate; there are some yogis, swamis and monks who can invade your space in an icky way. It adds insult to injury when you pay for it !

As much as I enjoy the physical act myself, I hope yoga.com doesn't focus too much on threads of a sexual nature. It's a bit salacious and can be a slippery slope on the 'net, you know, with all the sexually explicit stuff out there.

That's a very good point.  I'm starting to get annoyed with all the tourists through our local circle.  I understand that people have to start somewhere, but it's getting a bit annoying to have to deal with a steady stream of looky-loos.

I could never hold a grudge against someone thinking "oriental massage" was a cover for prostitution, especially GJ. The ads for oriental massage crack me up b/c they always say the massage therapists are young, beautiful girls. That's really important when you're dealing with sciatica.

Acupressure, tui na, shiatsu, ashiatsu, chi nei tsang - all names of specific massages that come from an Asian tradition. You can keep your clothes on for most of these massages; and they're very therapeutic. The acupressurist I go to walks all over me and it feels so goood! There's nothing like being massaged by someone's feet.

I personally think that "young, beautiful girls" are boring. Reminds me
of a song:

(music swells, Bay Guy walks to center stage, holding a single rose,
wearing his checked jacket with an open collar, and sits on the edge of
a tall stool...think El Gallo in The Fantastiks... or maybe just Dean Martin
departing from the Rat Pack)

Give me an older woman, every time, every time
Yes, give me an older woman every time.

'Cause they don't yell and they don't tell
and they're grateful as hell,
so give me an older woman every time

(Bay Guy runs from center stage as the tomatos fly and
the liberated women attack...)

...with regrets to Benny Hill --- and my Uncle, who alway said that "tell" should be "swell".

Well... I really don't care how beautiful they are, so long as their fingers are strong. I'm a very dense sort of guy, it takes quite a bit to penetrate these muscules.

As far as it being a front for prostitution, wellll..... sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and sometimes it gets you impeached!

I agree that older people are sexier - men and women. I think it's the confidence level. Other than not having wrinkles, most 20-somethings seem to have very little to offer in the romantic realm. They're too self-centered. Yes, I know every 20-something reading this is going to tell me how bad I am...but it's just my observation and opinion.

I'm totally straight but I find women in their 40s absolutely sexy and beautiful. I think Bo Derek looks much more beautiful now than she did when she was in "10". She has little lines around her eyes that soften her face and give her the appearance of having wisdom, intellect and experience. She looks like a person you'd want to have a conversation with. Is Paris Hilton capable of having a conversation?

One thing I wonder about older men with younger women: are the men using the younger women like Viagra? I mean do they need a young woman to look at in order to get aroused? Frankly, I don't get the whole older woman and younger guy thing. Ashton Kutcher is cute but he would get on my last nerve. What does Demi see in him? Remember, Ashton has that awful Punk'd show!

Later ~

Well, I must say I can see the appeal of the younger man, my DH is 7 yrs younger than me! It just sorta turned out that way, he's actually much more mature than me (and much more mature than the older men I was dating before I met him). The one big appeal I guess is that sometimes a younger one is "trainable!" The best thing is that they don't have as much emotional baggage, and you don't have to get treated like crap because of all the previous women that did him wrong. Get in on the ground floor, avoid bitterness and revenge that has nothing to do with you!

Ashton Kucher isn't much to write home about, but Demi Moore scares me a little. She's had so much plastic surgery and Botox, she can barely dart her eyes around and looks like some kind of creepy animatronic mannequin. As for Paris Hilton, I think it's going to take more than age to make her wise and interesting! It doesn't work that way for everybody . . . Zsa Zsa Gabor doesn't seem all that wise or beautiful to me.

Which is really sexy! I want a woman I can talk to, who gets my motor running....

I read somewhere that as people age their faces begin to take on more characteristics of their soul. So if you're somebody who likes to laugh and joke you start to form laugh lines from constantly pulling the face in that direction. If you spend a lot of time frowning, and getting angry the face starts to reflect that.

Is Paris Hilton capable of having a conversation?

I'm completely baffled as to why this woman is even remotely important. I'm pretty much forced to go with conspiracy to keep to public confused, and ignoring the big issues.

I don't think my personal view point is the norm per se, but I think that a lot of older men usually use young woman to stroke their egos. I've seen some really old (50-60+) who didn't do much for me, but other than that I think a lot of it is intelligence and attitude.

The best thing is that they don't have as much emotional baggage, and you don't have to get treated like crap because of all the previous women that did him wrong. Get in on the ground floor, avoid bitterness and revenge that has nothing to do with you!

Zsa Zsa Gabor is a self-centered drunk fatso. I didn't add in my previous post that women over 40 are sexy if they don't let themselves go, gain tons of weight and become addicts, since that's not a nice thing to say publically. I guess I should never assume everyone is on the same wavelength.

I constantly find myself both embarrassed and angry that I know anything at all about people like this. Why do I know about all the dumb stuff about her dog getting lost? I need the space in my brain to keep important info!! Also, why do I know things about sports, such as what the sport of "skelton" is, what people mean when discussing "the look" Lance Armstrong gave in the Tour de France, or the difference between biathon and duathlon??? I could learn the sutras in Sanskrit if I could toss out some of this cr@p Or maybe even remember where I put the Christmas cards I bought on sale last year ....

No doubt - I think it a way it's like candy for the brain. Just a fluffy distraction from the everyday mundane. I don't really CARE about Nick and Jessica's breakup, but it's kinda fun to read about nonetheless. Spending a lot of time in hospital waiting rooms w/ my brother, I got to read TONS of trashy magazines. The hospital didn't even have the really trashy ones, I had to buy them myself!

I agree that older women are much more attractive than younger women IF they take care of themselves and accept the interesting journey of aging. Without tons of plastic surgery and trying to dress/behave the way they did in their heyday (i.e. Ginger Rogers, UGH!). Then again, if I got a choice of trading bodies w/ Gisele Bundchen or Susan Sarandon, I think I'd still have to go with Gisele!

Gisele is amazing. Period. I don't know what they put in the water in Brazil but all the Brazillian women I've seen are stunning.

I am so behind in pop culture news; I can be easily fooled by a 6 month old People magazine.

Poor Paris Hilton will not be looking so hot in 10 years. There's something about sex with multiple partners, catching STDs, staying up late and drinking too much that doesn't wear well on a woman's face (or body). Life is not fair; men can do all that for at least 10 additional years without showing any signs of rotting.

Yes, I agree with Cyndi, let's all move to Green Acres or Mayberry.

IIRC she won an incredible number of awards in a very short period. I can't imagine anybody surviving such a "wonderful success" w/o it going to their heads.

Well... considering the fact that they don't speak English, what else is somebody from a completely foreign language going to be able to sell other than their body, or art? I'm sure there are tons of attractiveness challenged Brazillian woman.

If everybody judge Cincinnati based on the fact that Jerry Springer used to be mayor, I'd never leave the apartment.

I'm not so sure about that. My friend Pat has been living that life for a while, and it's definitely starting to wear on him. Add into that his repressed anger towards woman after dealing with all the ones he's dated because he wasn't too choosy, and he's got a lot of stuff to work off.

Actually, I wouldn't mind moving back to North Carolina. (Which is where Mayberry is, right?) I had a coop with IBM in Raliegh for a while. Very beautiful place, lots of big tall old trees, nice people.

Yeah, Keith Richards isn't looking too sexy either! Yikes! It wears everybody down eventually. Unfortunately it's getting harder to tell in Hollywood who has had work done, so we have to look to our families and peers to see how to REALLY age beautifully. I nearly fainted when my step teacher said she was 47, she looks barely 35! Clean living and plenty of exercise, I guess.

Then again my yoga teacher's wife is Brazilian and is one of the loveliest people you could ever hope to meet - tiny and beautiful and gentle and kind with a voice that sounds like warm caramel. She glows as if she's lit from within! Perhaps it's the yoga, that rainforest water, or maybe it's just speaking Portugese that really does the magic!

Green Acres sounds good for a while, but having to climb a telephone pole to make a call would wear you out after a while!

My parents moved up to a rural area about 15 yrs ago, and we actually did have to drive a couple of miles and use a pay phone next to the highway for a couple of weeks. Not fun. They still don't have cable TV or DSL out there, no high speed internet. Horrors!!!!

Yup, it really bothers me how superficial everything in Hollywood is. The subtle hyperbole is really interesting too. I was watching "Hitch" with my family this weekend, and I was slightly sickened by the apartments that the two main characters lived in, and the implication that these multi-million dollar pads were perfectly normal for a couple of people living in New York.

I nearly fainted when my step teacher said she was 47, she looks barely 35! Clean living and plenty of exercise, I guess.

Some people just look naturally younger, and some naturally older. One of my friends still looks like he's in his 20's despite the fact that he's probably 35+. OTOH, I seem to have gotten the other end of the stick, nobody believes I'm thirty when I tell them. I was fun when I bought beer at 19, but it's a little old when I'm 30 and trying to meet woman....

Anyway, sometimes you can judge people by their looks, particular if you've known them for a while you can tell what sort of mood they're in, or how run down they are.

Well if you want to talk about being gentle and kind, with a lovely voice, that's probably the yoga. As far as being beautiful or tiny that could be anything.

Well, SF, I live in the boondocks, no dsl and cable internet, and no cell phone...I AM SO HAPPY!!! You can actually hear the earth sounds. We survive better than you guys do, because we simply do not care or worry about it. In fact, we have simple stress free living out here in the countryside. The only thing I worry about is Yodha eating my rose bushes,

Mayberry is not really a town in NC. It is actually called Mount Airy. This is where the set of Mayberry was filmed.

I have some idea, I've been camping before, in some fairly primative conditions.

I really can't remember what town it was, I just know there's one in NC with big billboards saying, "Now Entering the town of Mayberry, home of Andy Griffith". It's been about 7-10 years since I last saw the signs, so I can't remember.

Dunno, didn't Anya go to Yogaville in VA? Virginia is a dangerous place -- maybe the
Demon Falwell from came up from Lynchberg and grabbed her?

And came back. Then she was going to move to Oregon, but who really needs three months to move someplace? Generally it takes me about a day to pack, a day to unpack + travel time. So I figure a week to move to Oregon. (Unless moving woman is worse than waiting for them to get ready for a date. )

Hi there.

how's everybody been?

I've been okay, it's spring time, so I'm kinda climbing the walls, but other than that things are going well. How are you doing? You sticking around for a bit, or just sticking your head in to check on things?

I was just lurking a bit and decided to prove you wrong
I'm doing well, thanks for asking. It's been crazy to say the least but I am in a pretty good place now.

I'm glad to hear it. I think there's something about the spring time that causes that sort of stuff. I'm half convinced that a bit part of the problem between me and the local teacher I was b*tching about are caused by spring fever.

Hi Michelle

Wait a minute...is this Anya - who's Michelle??? Could it really be Anya?? If it is Anya in disguise....You know these darn black cats are still waiting on ya to come pick em' up. Pretty soon they are gonna be so old and set in there ways here on the farm, How are ya Chickadee?? How was Yogaville?? How come your're not hanging out with us anymore??

BTW, when I did my yoga.com last will and testament, I gave all the cats to GJ, cause I figured one day you'ins would get back together and raise them like a good family,

ahh, Cyndi, still holding back in your posts I see.
I had some nasty personal stuff to take care of and thought it a bit rich to post on a yoga message board while my own practice was suffering.
so, I hibernated, but it's spring now, so it's time to leave the cave.

well, kiss all the black cats for me! I will be off again soon but will pop in more often, I promise.
GJ doesn't seem like a cat person so you just leave all of them to me!

Cats are wonderful, I just happen to be allergic. (Which is odd, since it's the only thing that seems to cause an allergic reaction in me)

Michelle's a wonderful person for cats, she can have my share anyday.

Wait a minute...what am I suppose to do with these cats of yours????!!!!??? I suppose I'll have to keep feeding them huh??? This is going to cost you Anya. Do you know how much cat food I have to buy every week??? Not to mention I had to re-screen the front door because every morning at 7:30, they are climbing the screen door to get me to come outside and feed them. Today I go for a drive in the mountains with cat prints all over the front and back windows....do you know what it's like to try to drive a red sportscar with all that going on - not very sporty!!
