Subject: Yoga Lift

I have been attempting a headstand for a while but it hurts the top of my head. I found the Yoga Lift on www.Yoga-Being.com and I am wondering if anyone has any experience with it.

I have tried one and it seemed like a useful tool for some people. Headstand can be dangerous if done incorrectly and is dangerous for some people even when done correctly. Headstand, shoulder stand and plow should be learned from an experienced teacher.

Unless you particularly have an excess cervical curve or are being trained specifically, the crown of the head is not the placement point for Sirsasana. Rather it is the front fontenele (for the person with a healthy cervical curve).

The device you mention would be fine if you are simply trying to "be" upside down. By the same token, a noose around the ankles would also work for that intention.

However, if it is the appropriate effect of Sirsasana you are seeking (and its reside of effects) then this "bench" has too wide a space as it does not place the weight in the appropriate parts of the brachial plexus. I do not recommend it for yoga. For being upside down, fine.

This pose, more than many others, should be learned from a trained teacher.

I prefer not to use other objects. Use just a towel. While in headstand raise your shoulders so weight will be shifted to elbows,no much weight comes to head. 60% weight on elbows 20% on hands and 20% on head. Namaste
