Dear Brother BG: It will be very difficult for you to find a student of KY who can explain what is the philosophy behind that practice, I mean KY style, not K in general.

As against my general statements, I advise you to go to Border's and browse through books by the KY founders and senior teachers, and make out what is possible. This can be slightly involved, but that shall satisfy you in terms of getting a good idea about it.

Best Luck.

The short answer is, they like a lot of breath work, kapalabati / breath of fire, & they do it in the poses. It is energizing. I don't like it myself. Some traditions don't like exposing beginners to this kind of intense breathing. It is reputed to disrupt the emotional body.
