Try as I might to get my yoga clothes in the wash immediately after class, there are times I go and do other things and they sit in my gym bag. They are getting that nasty sponge smell, you know that metallic smell that you get if you don't wring out the kitchen sponge?

I am using detergent and oximagic in the washer. Anybody have any luck with other products?

Sometimes all you can do is add a little bleach. Carefully! Mix well with water and make sure the washer is at least half full before you put in your clothes. If you have a front loader, I find that mine will only get workout clothes (Mr. Tourist's of course, I am too much of a lady to create stinky gym clothes...) clean if I use the "towels" setting and give an extra wash and rinse. They just don't use enough water to get the gunk out.

Mine start to smell like ammonia almost immediately, but that wet smell I think is mildew.

When that happens, I use hot water and about a cup of vinegar along with the detergent. I let it soak for about 10-20 minutes and wash.

I then blast them in the dryer. I usually use that technique for towels, as they can start to mildew quickly because of their thickness. They also can mildew in the dry cycle since they are so thick that the heat doesn't get to them until later.

All has been good since I started that.
