Subject: Half-Moon

As a teacher and a student I like to hold this posture a full minute for the first set.

It's not because I love half moon, I really don't.
I hold it this long because I understand the importance of allowing a good 'long' time for the mind to settle down. ! My mind is so predictable! ALWAYS, ALWAYS (as a student) in this asana I am in my mind wondering what the "h-e- double hockey sticks" I am doing in this heat again. But, after one minute on each side a decent back bend and a very l-o-n-g forward bend I am better.

This asana immediately addresses some of the most common troubles for new students: focus, stamina, breath and mind awareness and maintaining balance while in movement. It is a perfect transition between the out-there world and the yoga-room-world.

As a timing technique it gives the student time to settle down, gives the teacher ample time to make corrections and engage the class. Second set I usually take to 30 seconds. It feels as if it flies by and the yogis are engaged.

Then by the 2nd set of awkward I am happy to be standing on my invisible stiletto shoes with my arms dripping sweat out in front of me.

Again, I am all into the yoga and the sweet heat, looking forward to seeing how the rest of my practice will be! YAY YOGA!

Thanks Darla, for letting us know. Focus, stamina, breath and mind awareness?
Now I know why I hate the halfmoon so much!
