I've heard that yoga can help you lose weight but i've also heard if you are too skinny, it helps tone your whole body and you can gain weight from it too. I'm considering taking yoga classes but need more information. My goal to gain some weights and get toned at the same time. Please respond if you know about this.

Namaste Mary,
generally every sport/workout will help you loose FAT and gain MUSCLES. So if you are already very skinny (no body fat) it might be possible to gain weight by building more muscle mass. But there are other methods better suited just for that purpose, eg weightlifting and other more classical workouts. Yoga will tone your muscles - but only in a very subtle way. If you expect to gain weight very fast you should resort to body building not to yoga. Or just eat more
Fact is: Muscles are heavier than fat. The choice is yours

Hi Mary!
Speaking from a personal experience the best answer for you could be Ashtanga. The standing sequence is quite strenuous and if you work towards doing all the vinyasas your body will HAVE TO build up some muscles. Just don't forget to eat afterwards - and include enough proteins for the muscles to grow. Good luck!
