And I've got to say, it really wasn't so bad!

It wasn't perfect or polished or professional sounding (whatever that means), but those attending gave me great positive feedback and they all seemed genuinely happy about it. AND I ended on time, so that made me feel pretty good too.

One attendee, a fellow trainee, came up to me a couple classes later to tell me that my cues, especially for a level 1 class, were right on target, totally clear and understandable by all. I thanked her, and then proceeded to say that yeah, but I didn't end up touching everyone (adjustments in class are highly encouraged, even if they are only of the "feel good" type). Her response? "Just take my positive comment and let go of the rest. Just let it go!" Amazing how we forget so quickly all the time, and keep reverting to those old bad habits.

I think the most successful part of the class for me was the reaction of a non-yoga friend of mine who came to attend my class. She's relatively new to fitness in general, so I was particularly concerned as to how she'd do, feel, etc. Afterwards, the first thing she told me was that she felt great! Quite a bit sore, but great, stretched and relaxed over all. She also said that my instructions were completely clear to her, as well as followable (is that a word?), which was really my biggest concern. The niceties and refinements in my delivery will come with time, I'm sure. So overall, I passed!

Well if you were totally clear and understandable then IMO your class was perfect. Polished is overrated....It makes the instructor less human and approachable. Sounds like you had a great first class.

Thanks everyone for your good comments and encouragement! We had another seven hours of classes today, rounding out the 16 trainees' presentations this weekend. I'm sooooo exhausted! Can you overdose on savasana? I wonder...

Awesome! I know you're not overly fond of YF, but they stress and teach good cueing. Do you think that training helped at all? Anyhoo, sounds like you're off to a great start. WTG!!!!!!!!!

Hi Kym,

Thanks for the encouragement! Yes, I'm sure what I learned from YogaFit helped quite a bit, as well as my personal training background.

As for me not being overly fond of YF, I think that I just wasn't in the right place to be in that program at that time. I wanted to learn yoga, not how to be a yoga teacher. Thankfully I found a studio practically in my backyard that has been satisfying both of those needs for me. Eventually the proper teacher arrives for the student, once the student is truly ready to learn.
