| Someone on one of the other threads went to my website and asked me to post my story. I wasn't sure I wanted to post that here, but then today, well, I went to my WW meeting and I have released 100 lbs. of unnecessary body.
Can yoga (help) transform a body? I'd say yes.
I have other physical activity, and I'm sure what I did or didn't put into my mouth had a little something to do with it, but the whole experience has been much deeper than just a body transformation, and that's what yoga does.
Yoga has helped me adjust to the changes in my body. Asana has helped me tone and shape my changing body so that I don't have the unhealthy sunken-eye and hanging skin that one so often sees. Ahimsa has helped me to make this change in a way that is respectful to my body and my life. Niyama has helped me to learn my own tendancies and grow in an understanding of who I am, how I got where I was, and how I can continue to walk the path I am now (much happier) on. Pranayama gives me strength and energy when inertia gets me down, and the knowledge that the light of Shakti shines from within my form encourages me to keep a holy temple of my body.
Can yoga transform a body that is out of shape? Yes. But more importantly, can yoga transform a mind that is filled with self-disgust and a heart that has given up all hope of health and vibrancy?
I believe that yes, yes it can. And it did. |
