I'd just like to share that this is an AWESOME asana that was never taught to me in class even though I've only taken a million classes with many instructors. I worked on it today and it twisted the lower part of my spine better than any other twist. My back feels amazing right now. http://home.gci.net/~smwhitney/yoga/images/intermediate/pasasana.jpg

Expert Yogi Posts: 8442 | We don't get to pasasana very often, but it is a nice pose

We tried it the other day coming from prayer twist (namaskar parsvakonasana) while working on balacing. I'm "bind" challenged but I encourage the rubber girls if they're so inclined. (th_PrayerTwist.jpg) Attachments ---------------- th_PrayerTwist.jpg (2KB - 170 downloads)

And, may be that was why the instructor did not teach it. In the photo, one can make it improved if they want. For example, try touching the heels to ground. But, of course, the pose in photo is done very well.

Yes, pasasana is a deep twist. I use revolved side angle parsva utkatasana parsva Bakasana to open the body for this twist. Sometimes I bind just one leg when I'm not able to bind both...

It goes over behind your back, as if you were going to take your wallet out of your left pocket using your right hand (or visa versa). I wondered about your cheesecake comment re. YJ do you feel asanas are being 'watered-down' or something? I'll not speak for Brother Bay Guy. Many people feel YJ features only the young and beautiful in skimpy attire rather than we normal folk just trying our dardest to travel the yogic path. I personally feel there are pluses and minus to the Cosmo...er, I mean YJ editorial style. I like looking at pleasing pics but I'm a middle-aged guy. I could see where only featuring hotties could be objectionable and instill the notion one must be a conventional lovely to take up yoga.

Expert Yogi Posts: 2479 Location: A Blue State | Brother Bruce, you've pretty much said what I was thinking. All I could add would be that hotties are truly wonderful, but it's not helpful when the hottie aspect speaks louder that the yogic aspect. .. bg

Haha, as long as they keep balancing the cheesecake with the beefcake I'm fine with it. And I love twists, they integrate my split personalities.

I hear you, Brother Bruce and in that regard i agree wholeheartedly Part of why I love yoga so much is that the path is there for all Bruce - 2007-03-22 12:53 PMI'll not speak for Brother Bay Guy.
