| I have just received my certification for Yoga Instruction and have taught a number of times already, however, I keep having nightmares about the class being unruley, taking over the class, and just complete chaos.
Now in reality I know this is silly - I absolutely love to teach and get amazing feedback from my classes, not to mention they are hardly chaotic! I am completely comfortable in eteaching, and I have dne yoga for over 7 years now, so I can't imagine why my sub-conscience is doing this to me!
Did anyone else go through this? |

| I, too, have had bad dreams about classes...
I've been teaching for just under a year. About two months into teaching I began dreaming that my class, which I am teaching at a healing center, was too large to fit into the room. Students were crowded into the hallway, and the room, which only holds ten maximum, was overflowing and hot. I was embarassed and felt terrible.
Luckily, the dreams went away not too long after they started and have not recurred, nor have they actually happened!
Now I just dream about practicing certain asanas, which I cannot yet do in reality, and those are magnificent dreams.
Namaste! |

| The brain is funny, isn't it?
I'm not a teacher, but I can relate. I used to dream about abandoning or neglecting my children.
I think our greatest fears pop up in dreams. After you've convinced yourself those fears are unfounded, you'll probably stop dreaming about them. |

| i've had those dreams, too.
scaaaaary ****e...
i don't think its anything to worry too much about. as you say, you are quite capable of guiding a class.
i would recommend meditating on it. try to identify where those sentiments may have come from, your own self-doubt, etc...
i've also had dreams like you mentioned, st. paul, which are wonderful. i had one the other day where i was perfectly steady in vasisthasana, holding my foot above the ground...
and the best one was practicing bakasana, and then floating to the ceiling...
i'd like to have that one again...

| When I first started I used to dream of doing the various poses. Not a nightmare per se, just something about dealing with the events of the days. A lot of dreams are like that, so you really spend your time dreaming about stuff that happened to you.
I also had a bad accident a few months ago, and had some nightmares from that. It was only natural, it was a pretty traumatic event, so I had a few nightmares. Nothing really all that odd, though I didn't enjoy missing the sleep.
Maybe there's something going on in the class that your not dealing with well? I know that public speaking can be stressful for a lot of people, that's just the way it is. Being a yoga teacher can be even more demanding, since people have high expectations of thier teachers. Anyway, just because something's stressful doesn't mean you're doing a bad job, or that there's anything wrong, it's just your bodies reaction to the situation. |

| LOL - Grimace - been a while since I've seen the purple jubejube!
It's not a fear of speaking... I train tons of people a year, and have spoken in front of hundreds to just a few, so I doubt its that.
Perhaps its just the comfort level you get with experience.
I am also getting my meditation fascilitator accreditation, and I have no problems leading meditaitons either!
LONG LIVE GRIMACE! |
