Subject: More on "locking" the knee

I didn't want to thread-jack, so I started a new one for this subject:

I've mentioned before that I hyper extend my knees to a near flamingo-like degree. I liked the explanation of engaging the quads by lying on the floor toes up and pushing your heels away from your body, etc... So I now understand that I need to pull up my kneecap by engaging my quads and attain a straight leg, as opposed to what my body is used to in "locking" the knee. But oh man, my muscles are sooo weak! I'm planning on also asking my teachers, but do any of you have any suggestions to strengthen these muscles (besides more classes, that is)? It'd be great to have strengthening exercises I can do at home, maybe while I'm watching TV, etc...

Thanks, folks!

Hi Chatoyancy, This article from "Yoga Journal" really helped me with overextending my knees.

cheers.

As the article says, you really need to engage your quads to protect your kneeds. Page two and 3 offer exercises to help with the problem.
