| I have just started Bikram Yoga. During my fourth class, I was working on the toe stand pose. When I bent over to put my hands on the ground, my bent knee (the one up on my leg) made a ridiculously loud popping noise and hurt so bad! I finished the class, but I can no longer bend that leg without pain and it is pretty swollen. Any ideas what I might have done wrong, or has anyone else had a similar experience? Thank you. |

| You need to go and see either a doctor or osteopath/physio etc, as it sounds like you could have injured a ligament in your knee.
I had a similar experience recently sitting in lotus. Popping sounds and pain usually equal bad news!  |

| You need to go to a sports physio or doctor......
you may have torn a ligament or cartilage.....very painful and will take a long time to heal.
Any half/full lots type movements/positions are very dangerous for knees if posture is forced or when hips are not open enough.
Work into these types of hip openers with flexed or strongly active feet/ankles to protect your knees.....if the ankle is making a wrinkly C shape or is sickled then you could be straining knee ligaments.
You may need a knee support for a while....and do NOT lock you knee....WORK your quads to lift knee cap and keep the joint strong and safe.

Bikram seems to know very little about anatomy or structural kinesiology.......much of the sequence is unsafe for many body types.....
