Is there a reason why the standard pincha mayurasana entry is to kick up with one or both legs, instead of tip-toeing towards the hands, tucking the knees into the chest and lifting slowly as in headstand? Is the former way of getting into the pose more aesthetically appealing? Just curious, because of the similarities between headstand and pincha.

Kicking is the easy way........I do not know why it is not done just like headstand..............I have only ever kicked up or lifted up from headstand.............later I will try walking my feet in then lifting.....will let you know what happens....

OK tried to lift up........no joy..................
You need to have VERY open hamstrings and lower back to be able to walk in and lift up.................I find it very easy to walk in and lift in headstand but could not do it in pincha..................
Very difficult to keep shoulders open and lift groins high enough to be able to just lift...............
But if I walk in as far as I can without shoulders collapsing and lift one leg up then only a tiny hop is needed to get other leg up.
Can you just lift up?

Hi there,
It is indeed possible to press in to pincha mayurasana, just as it is usually taught with headstand, I suspect that it is not taught because the teachers and inventors of the various yoga brands don't actually have two brain cells to rub together

I do not think it is any thing to do with brain cells......................lifting up is difficult!!! you would need very flexible and strong to do it........
I can lift if I step on t a block first....if not I can not get my hips up over my shoulders.........the other way is to lift to headstand then lift head up off floor which is easier.....
Can you just lift up??
