| Hi,
I meditate (mantra meditation) twice a day. Each session is 20 min.
But I am having a problem with the evening session. I feel very fresh after it and won't be able to sleep during the night even if I maintain a gap of 3 hrs between meditation and sleep time. I still feel very fresh and relaxed on the bed.
I don't want to avoid the evening session because it is very relaxing.
What should I do?
Thank you.

| Stop the evening session and see if you sleep ok. If so, try to meditate in the afternoon instead of the evening and see how that goes.
Unless you stop the evening session and find out whether you actually sleep better or not, you do not know whether it is the meditation or something else that is disturbing your sleep.

| Hi,
Thank you for the responses. After trying few combinations, I found that 5 min in the
morning, 5 min in the afternoon and 3 min in the evening is working for me. Anything more is causing too much alertness in the night.
But will I be able to meditate longer in the future? I don't understand why I am becoming so alert after meditation. |

| Stop thinking in terms of good or bad. (As in 13 minutes per day is bad and 1 hour per day is good.) Just do what works for you right now. You cannot know what will work for you in the future as you will be a somewhat different person, so don't worry about it.
Enjoy the time that you do meditate and bring the alertness and awareness into the rest of your life.
I think that quality is much more important than quantity in meditation, as in most things in life.
When you practice meditation (or a sport, or a musical instrument, or any skill, whether physical or mental (they are all both)), you are re-wiring your brain and building new muscles to better cope with a new reality. If you spend short periods with high awareness, you will do much more of what you want than doing longer periods with relative inattention.
Find effortless virtuosity. It will permeate your life.
