| Hey everyone, as the title implies, I am a beginner (6 months of practice) and am trying to find the proper DVD to make my sessions more enjoyable. Between school, family, and running a home-based business I am not afforded much time to get into an actual class.
I started out with Bryan Kest's Power Yoga series, and have yet to make it past the 1st chapter. Whenever I do the session I end up feeling great afterwards, but because of the intensity I end up avoiding the practice rather than looking forward to it.
Some weeks I will force myself into doing it 3 times, but when it will take me another 2-3 weeks to get the motivation up to do it again. From doing it, it feels like the sessions must be done consistently in order to get the most benefits, but either from laziness (? I hope not!) or from fear of doing poses that I am either not strong enough to do, flexible enough to do, or having pain in my wrists by the end of the class, I end up not doing it nearly as often as I should. During tonight's session I actually got light headed, and dizzy, and then, now, have a headache at the end of the night.
I would love to find a DVD like this series but one that doesn't hold the poses near as long, and doesn't have quite the advanced poses so that I am able to focus more on my breathing and flexibility, while also building up endurance and core strength.
I love Yoga and how I feel when I have done the sessions, but I want a DVD that I am able to look forward to doing rather than dreading it beforehand and usually during the session.
So my question, are there any DVDs that are similar to Bryan Kest's Power Yoga, but with less intensity, and more focus on flexibility and breathing?

| It was my heart doctor that recommended (prescribed... insisted, etc.), "Rodney Yee, Yoga for Beginners" and I'm so glad he did. I just had my 1st GREAT grandchild, if that tells you anything about my challenges (not to mention arthritis, apnea, etc). This DVD takes you at your own pace, emphasises that you don't go beyond your own capability, and brings you along carefully. I felt the benefits within days, and do look forward to the routine, and especially how I feel afterwards. Rodney Yee is hard to beat! |
