Subject: help!

I am a yoga novice and already hooked apart from an embarrassing problem which is threatening to stop me from continuing...In the inverted poses I find it impossible to control my pelvic floor muscles, my uterus fills with air resulting in a mortifying farting noise when I come out of the pose. Please tell me there is something I can do to resolve this!

Carla, I am a Kundalini Yoga Teacher. In my opinion your "problem" is normal. It is quite common and not truly a big deal. Yes, it may seem embarassing but it happens to many. Try coming down from an inverted pose very slowly, retain your navel and pull a bit of a root lock (by tightening up your rectum and sex organ muscles), and this should help to eleviate your problem. Just remember that it is a natural thing that happens in those poses and at time it is hard to avoid some air getting in and well...what comes in must come out...just relax and keep up your practice :)

Carla,

I agree with Natalia, by strongly engaging the root lock "Mula Bandha" while releasing the inversion will help. Read about how to practice Mula Bandha here:
