Yoga treats a person because the right energy circulation is restored. When you are in harmony with yourself, you cannot be sick and unhappy.

Sickness and unhappiness are not caused by not being "in harmony with yourself", although being "out of harmony with yourself" (stressed for example)
can lower your immunity and make you more susceptible to disease and injury. There is a big difference between what can make something more likely and what causes something. (False causation is commonly called superstition.) A woman can increase the likelihood of being assaulted at night by her appearance, but her appearance is not the cause of the assault nor "her fault".

There are many things that we can control and there are many that we cannot. Sickness and old age are inevitable. We do have the opportunity to minimize them and slow them down or maximize them and speed them up.

Happiness is relative. It is a relative state that can only be compared to our own unhappiness as they are simply two sides of the same coin and mutually dependant. In fact, unhappiness is the correct and healthy response to some things, like your children being murdered in a war! You can, however, turn off your conscious perception of unhappiness, but that also turns off the happiness and turns you into a zombie, not a happy person.

Yoga is helpful for some illnesses, but cannot cure illness in general. Yoga will not cure cancer or whatever. It can be helpful in slowing the progression of some diseases and in helping the medical cure be more efficient (exercise and relaxation both stimulate the para-sympathetic nervous system which stimulates the immune system and helps the body rebuild itself).

When you say that "when you are in harmony with yourself, you cannot be sick and unhappy" you are saying that if you are not healthy and happy that IT IS YOUR OWN FAULT. Although you can smoke cigarettes and get lung cancer as a result or eat too much and not exercise and get fat and have high blood pressure and diabetes (your fault), it is certainly not your fault if you have MS, genetically transmitted diseases, catch a virus that your system has never encountered and therefore has no immunity to (common colds and small pox for native Americans for example), etc etc etc.

Slick, simplistic answers to complex questions are seldom true and usually do more harm than good. They are usually based on misunderstanding or are simply re-stating some superstition or myth. Please tell a grieving parent of a dying child that it is either the parent's fault or the child's fault because they were not in harmony with themselves!
