| Hi, I've never tried Yoga before. I am a dancer. My dance teacher told me that Yoga is good for dance. Is this true? Could anyone give me some tips on Yoga? Good classes, books, videos, music? I need help, and it would be very apperciated.
Thanks,

| i'm also a dancer, and yoga really helps. it adds flexibilty and strengthens your muscles. i have a video called New Yoga, and its supposidly easier than the original types of yoga. if your not strong enough, than its always easier to use a yoga video for pregnant women because the exercises are much easier, and require less work. |

| Hi Rachel,
You may want to check out Rodney Yee's book "Yoga, the poetry of the body" as he was a professional dancer when he started practicing yoga.
For general info and reccomendations and reviews of books, CDs and videos check out my website, Yoga Basics here: http://www.yogabasics.com

| I was a dancer for 15 years before I switched to yoga. Something I have experienced is that my hips were extremely tight, because of the motions that dancers typically do: developes, grand battements-- we build up this area but don't do much to stretch it out. Try the pidgeon, cow face pose (one leg crossed over the other) the hero and lotus-preps to help loosen them up. |
