Hi, I've never tried Yoga before. I am a dancer. My dance teacher told me that Yoga is good for dance. Is this true? Could anyone give me some tips on Yoga? Good classes, books, videos, music? I need help, and it would be very apperciated.

Thanks,
Rachel

i'm also a dancer, and yoga really helps. it adds flexibilty and strengthens your muscles. i have a video called New Yoga, and its supposidly easier than the original types of yoga. if your not strong enough, than its always easier to use a yoga video for pregnant women because the exercises are much easier, and require less work.

Hi Rachel,

You may want to check out Rodney Yee's book "Yoga, the poetry of the body" as he was a professional dancer when he started practicing yoga.

For general info and reccomendations and reviews of books, CDs and videos check out my website, Yoga Basics here: http://www.yogabasics.com

Namaste,
Timothy

I was a dancer for 15 years before I switched to yoga. Something I have experienced is that my hips were extremely tight, because of the motions that dancers typically do: developes, grand battements-- we build up this area but don't do much to stretch it out. Try the pidgeon, cow face pose (one leg crossed over the other) the hero and lotus-preps to help loosen them up.
