| Hello. Im Lindsay and I was looking into some yoga classes to become more flexible and strong and to relax as well. Im 14 and am physically active at least 5 times a week. I think yoga could help me become more flexible but i didnt realize how many different styles of yoga there were. I would greatly appreciate your response. |

| Hi Lindsay-
There are many forms of Hatha yoga which will assist in flexibility, strength, and relaxation.
Some of the more physical styles of yoga are Ashtanga and Iyengar. Some Vinyasa classes, too, can build strength and flexibility. When starting out, it can be very benificial to find a yoga teacher in your area.
Books and videos that be valuable tools too.
Here are some resources available in the Shop section of yoga.com, available on video:
20 Minute Beginner Power Yoga Video With Bryan Kest
Total Yoga Video With Tracey Rich and Ganga White
Power Yoga for Beginners- 3 tapes by Rodney Yee
And in Books:
Power Yoga-The Complete Workout by Beryl Bender Birch
Good luck!

| Hi I like to run but I'm not flexable enough. I am 15 and very short I'm around 4'10".
I used to be one of the fastest kids when I was 10. I run out of breath to fast and every one makes fun of me . Can you give me some advice? |

| Well, just give up. No one cares about you. You don't need anything anyways. |

| Lindsay: There is only one type of Yoga as far as body is involved, it is called Hatha Yoga. All styles of yoga are to perform the bodily exercises in different way. All Hatha Yoga poses without any exception, facilitate flexibility.

| Lindsay,
I'd advise going to a few different classes, and then making a decision as to which teacher you are happiest with. I hopped around most styles for a few years until I settled on Ashtanga. It was all part of the learning experience.
The most important thing when you are getting started is to find a teacher who has a good grasp of the basics (both in terms of technique and in terms of spirituality) and is able to communicate that well to you.
To the guy who can't run, just start exercising little by little and your heart's capacity will increase. Dance, walk, practise yoga. Just remember to build things up slowly and soon you'll be running marathons.
Happy practising,
Kate |
