There is a good website that shows some beginner postures and talks a little about what to do. Looking at this site should help you get started. Please let me know if this helps at all. editor's note: Please review the terms and conditions of using these forums to see why we removed the link you suggested. If you do want to provide that link, please do so in a private message or personal email. Namaste.

My fiance's sister is a junior in high school and she is the perfect example of the stressed out over achiever. So what did we do? We told her to start doing yoga for stress relief. We bought her a mat and a couple of videos and she loves it! I also told her to start reading all the articles and participating in these forums. I can tell you that she already feels the difference after less than one week, and she wants to do and learn more about yoga. If you have any more specific questions, PM me. Oh and by the way, this month's (december) spotlight on Yoga.com is yoga for stress relief. It's available on the home page at http://www.yoga.com piel

Babydevil, What I would suggest is go to a couple of Yoga classes in your area just to get you started and understand Yoga at the direction of a certified instructor, and then continue at home on your own. What I would suggest is take a friend with you and this way you can both support each other in Yoga. What I did was I started taking Yoga classes with a friend about 4 months ago and both of us became hooked and loved the benefits of Yoga, both physically and mentally. Once we became confident in knowing the postures and the basic idea of it, we ordered the book on the style of Yoga we learned and a tape and continued doing it on our own at home 6 to 7 days a week. It is working out great. Lots of Luck

BabyDevil: This is a strange question as I am not understanding why question states Start at Home rather than learn Yoga? I do not advise starting anything at home unless you learn it somewhere. If you wish to learn it at home, then call someone who knows what you want to learn to your home. I do not think you will go far with Yoga without instruction unless you are a born Yogi, but then you would not ask this question. If you can not afford to pay, just go to first time free classes at many places or gyms around you. Neel Kulkarni www.authenticyoga.org

Luckily, getting started with home yoga practice is relatively cheap, and easy! You probably already have the clothes necessary for home yoga practice, so aside from a yoga mat, and perhaps a few props (many of which you can substitute household items for!) there's no major expense. The next step to getting started with home yoga practice that I would recommend is to get online, and have a look for home yoga practice tips. You'd be surprised how much information is on the net! Home yoga pose tutorials, tips, hints, tricks and advice. In fact, chances are you can get started at no cost, and then take it from there. If it becomes something you want to pursue, invest in home yoga DVD's or videos, buy some books, or find a home yoga instructor in your area! Good luck!

I started yoga at home. Where I lived in Ohio in 1997 there were NO yoga teachers or studios. I saw the Total Yoga video at Border's and bought it. I put a blanket on my carpeted living room floor and began my yoga journey. It wasn't until 2001, when I moved to Florida, that I actually found a yoga teacher and studio and began classes. I have always felt that I get more out of my home practice than I have from a class. I have never injured myself (knock on wood) and I have gotten terrific physical and spiritual results from home practice.

Member Posts: 5 | According to me, it is the best that you are starting the Yoga practice and there are lots of books and magazines are available in the market and it will help you. Second thing is that you can get information from the best web sites online.

Member Posts: 40 | Good for you for wanting to relieve stress in what's possibly the most healthy way to go about it. Yoga will work wonders, in all aspects of your life. And starting now, you'll easily be able to form a life-long yoga habit that will carry you through life's unexpected interruptions. There a quite a few web sites that offer online classes. Many also have free trial offers. Take a look at a few of the big ones (just google online yoga), explore the types and levels they have to offer, an try a class for free. This is perhaps the cheapest option to get started. Of course, if you're ready to invest a bit, buying a video and literature is not a bad idea. Good luck to you! Namaste
