Subject: Back to the beginning

So I had a couple of minutes, 90 of them to be exact, before my regular class today so I took a Level I Ashtanga.

What fun! Granted, we jumped from the Marichyasanas to closing poses, but it felt good to take it really slowly. I tried not to get ahead of the teacher, since she'd take moments to address gross physical anatomy and how to use it every so often.

I laughed at myself, though. In my own Mysore I try to move very slowly, breathing extremely evenly. I get warm, but seldom pour sweat anymore. This time? I barely got warm, despite the ability to hold my bandhas and breath evenly. I think it was moving so sporadically that I got a lot of resting in. Not necessarily a bad thing, but sure not a meditative practice.

I think all beginning Ashtangis need a teacher with a background other than Ashtanga. They just make better, safer teachers in so many instances! These folks were lucky, I think.
