ANNOUNCING a CircusYoga for Kids and Families Teacher Training
with Kevin & Erin Maile O'Keefe

August 25 - August 31, 2004
Pompanuck Farm Institute in Cambridge, NY

,

What is CircusYoga? CircusYoga for Kids and Families combines the consciousness of yoga with the communal ceremony of circus. It is an imaginative, fun-filled experience for the whole family designed to strengthen self-confidence, focus, trust, expression, and teamwork.

Who is the CircusYoga Teacher Training for? We welcome yoga teachers, classroom teachers, circus teachers, child social workers, family therapists, parents and any yoga practitioner who wants to work with kids (ages 7-13) and adults. We recommend that applicants have at least one year of yoga practice, however, no circus experience is necessary.

What will I learn? CircusYoga embraces balance, joy, courage, agelessness, appropriate risk, and a supportive environment for transformation. We will explore techniques that support parents and kids as collaborators and life-long learners, opening new realms of vocabulary for play and communication. During this week-long training we will explore:

* Group dynamics in Hatha yoga & story-creation
* Kinesthetic communication through partner acrobatics & partner yoga
* Integration across the mid-line with juggling
* The spirit of play in parent/kid clowning & physical comedy
* Balance on the tightwire and in asanas
* Nurturance in parent/kid Thai massage
* Self-Expression through creative movement and dance
* Cultivation of your authentic teaching voice
* How to create an environment where every student can be seen and celebrated

This program offers a unique opportunity for kids and adults to learn on an even playing field. We believe in-like many families that join us each year-the value of this work in the family.

How will the week be structured? We will have Wednesday-Saturday morning to experience and discuss the CircusYoga approach and teaching forms. During Saturday & Sunday afternoons the public will be invited to participate in two CircusYoga workshops, which will give the members of the teacher training an opportunity to assist and co- teach in these programs. We will then have Monday and Tuesday to reflect on and integrate those experiences.

Pompanuck Farm is on 78 acres of field, forest and streams, nestled in the hills of eastern NY, on the Vermont border and surrounded by 3200 acres of state forest. The buildings are constructed with natural, alternative techniques-cordwood masonry and straw-bale. The Roundhouse has accommodations for 8 in four simply appointed rooms. The Guesthouse offers a quiet refuge for two or three. Pompanuck's swimming and goldfish ponds are cold-spring fed, powered by solar pumps. The vegetable, flower and fruit tree gardens are organic and meditative. Pompanuck Farm Institute is a not-for-profit educational center established in 1991, offering workshops, classes and retreats for adults and children.
