| I have an autoimmune disease that has caused arthritis in my knees, even though I'm relatively young (30ish). Most of the time the pain in pretty manageable with NSAIDs and the like, but there are some days when they don't work (...like today, hence the post!), and just walking around hurts. Actually, even just sitting hurts.
On these sorts of days, do you think that it is still OK (or even good for me) to go to my Bikram class, or should I just skip it and take it easy til the pain flares down? Would the heat and thus the "warming up" of the joint be beneficial, or would it actually end up being more likely to cause more stress in the end? Any advice? |

| Hi Elizabeth ---
This link is an article on Bikram yoga and arthritis:

| Interesting article, thank you for the link. It gives me hope for the future...but doesn't really answer my question. I guess only I can answer that. Yesterday, I decided to skip class because I was in too much pain just sitting down (!). Today, I will try to go and do as best I can within my limitations. |

| You really have to play it by ear. I have always tried to work through
my arthritis when I do yoga, since moving the joints tends to reduce the
stiffness (that's why we get morning stiffness with arthritis...the joints hardly
move all night, fill up with fluid, and hurt). But don't be a hero -- just try
in whatever way is best for you. Yoga has done wonders for me, and I now
practice constantly...my arthritis is vastly improved. |

| Just curious; are you the gentleman who wrote that article?
I'm glad to hear that yoga has improved your condition so much. You give me great hope! I know I just need to keep at it. |
