1. Always carry your yoga mat to and from class by the end, so it looks like a giant baseball bat.
2. After you grab a drink of water, look disgusted and say, "Too much mix, not enough vodka."
3. Tell people you go to yoga to meet chicks. (disclaimer: this is a wrong reason to go to yoga, but the majority of the masculine population will think your yoga practice much less lame for it.)
4. At parties tell people yoga strengthens your liver so you can pound more brew. Then immediately shot-gun a beer.
5. Since you've started yoga, you've never lost a bar-fight.

Sound advice for we western yogis--unintetionally, awhile ago, I rode my Harley to practice and got caught in a late summer Texas rain storm--arrived with soaked leathers, caked in mud--stumbled into the studio swing the rolled up mat to dry it with my jacket opened revealing my Smith & Wesson 357 revolver.

I think I have found my mission in life now!! I want to be certified as a yoga teacher and start a new form of yoga. "Yoga for Stiff, White, Construction Workers." Power tools could be used for props, and loose fitting bib overalls could be worn for stylized fashion.

Any suggestions for a new name for this "new" form of "hatha" yoga?

I would say..."inflexible" perhaps...

I have a yoga friend who does ride his big motorcycle to yoga (I don't know if it is a Harley) as often as he can. He recently forgot his shorts and had to wear the only things in the lost and found that would fit him, which were women's tights. Even though they were black and pretty generic, it was still pretty funny.

So what are the rules about firearms in the yoga studio? Do you leave them in the changeroom or do you bring them in to the room with your wallet and keys????

No rules at the studio--this is Texas sweetie. I need my 6 shooter with me during practice in case the Bikram nazi instructor decides to get cocky--can't be having that.

At-man Yoga?

Construction workers make stuff, and Brahma is the creator. So: Brahma Yoga ?

Or perhaps draw the analogy to Siva's Warrior: Virabhadra Yoga ? He had 1000 legs.

Or drawing from "Stiff White COnstruction Workers": SowCow Yoga.

I like the idea of using Siva's warrior, Virabhadra, to name this new form of yoga. It kind of has that manly touch to it, once you understand what Virabhadra is all about. Virabhadrasana 1, 2 or 3 could be the new "poster pose" for the group.

I've got an image for you:

My 6'5.5'', 230 pound construction working husband sitting in absolutely perfect Malasana. Then with his arms in Ghomukasana, elbow pointed beautifully upwards, chin lifted. Then...

He can take his bottom hand and put it up on the opposite shoulder, reaching down to grab the lower elbow with the top hand.

He can also do beautiful Paschimottanasana.

**** him.

He says Malasana is from years of roofing, but has no explanation for the easy arm positions. For Paschimottanasana? "Well, one should be able to touch all one's body parts if one wants to, don't you think?"

So what do you think of "Burley Man Yoga?"
