| i use pilates mat workouts to add variety to my fitness routine.
i have been practicing a beginner mat workout for awhile and would like to try a more advanced program. can someone (who has tried more than one) suggest a video series that has very detailed instructions for safety and proper exercise.
thank you! |

| I am a Pilates instructor, and I highly recommend these two BOOKS:
Pilates Body by Brooke Siler
Pilates: Body in Motion by Alycea Ungaro (This is my FAVORITE!)
There are workouts for all levels in both books, along with clear notes about exercise sequencing, proper form, and alignment.
If you are the type of person who really needs a video to follow, you can go to www.collagevideo.com. They review each video that they sell on thier website, so you get a clear description other than the one on the back of the video box. They also specify what level each video is appropriate for, and what (if any) equipment you will need to follow the video. Although I've never ordered Pilates videos from them, I have ordered other exercise videos, and have been pleased with their reviews and descriptions.
Hope that helps!

| I'll second the "Body In Motion" book.It is one the best out there, plus you get a free advanced repoitoire chart in two pages towards the end.
The videos I've used includes Stott advanced matwork/Ultimate Body Sculpting. But the instruction in the Ungaro's body in motion is first class. |

| i am ordering both the books yogachick has recommended. what do you all think about pilates on the ball??
i have a ball but i cant imagine i would be able to focus on pilates and balancing on the ball at the same time.
the reason i ask is : one of the books is available in combination with a pilates ball dvd. |

| Depends on who wrote the book, although I do think Pilates on the Ball is a good one.

| If it is one of the books by Colleen Craig, they are pretty good. I have looked through some other "Pilates on the Ball" type books that were disappointing, but I can't think of any of the authors off the top of my head.
If you get the book & dvd, let us know what you think!! I'm always ready to get my hands on a new Pilates or Yoga book!! |

Location: New Jersey | I love the book Pilates Body by Brooke Siler. My favorite DVD workouts are Ana Caban's Beginning Mat workout, and Intermediate Mat Workout. They're both available on collagevideo.com.
