What IS the correct way to spell it? With or without a capital 'Y'

I always seem to get it wrong and is never consistent in all the works I have read.

Much appreciation to whomever can clear up my confusion!!

As far as I know, Sanskrit doesn't have capitals and lower case so anything we do with the language is only an approximation. But I haven't seen it written "Yoga" as a rule.

Dear Twisti:

In germany we write Yoga with a capital Y because it's a substantive (noun). Some germans even write it as Joga but that's a typical misconception (we pronounce the J much softer than in english). In english (and sanskrit too as we've just learned) of course it's without capital Y. Of course when it's used as a part of a name you write it with capital Y like in our honored board member "Yoga Guy".

Dear twisti:
Apart from the examples which Big Brother Bruce gave above your posting, see the following:

Exercises: running, biking, swimming, yoga.

Philosophy: Yogadarshana, Yogopanishad, Yoga

Big Bruther's new name: Yoga

Respectful Prefix: Yogacharya BKS Iyengar

Part of the Yoga Type: Karmayoga, Bhatkiyoga, etc.

Name of a Style: Iyengar Yoga, Authentic Yoga, Bikram Yoga.

By the way yogayoga - means coincidence. Pronoucned as yogaayoga (aa as in father and a as in but).

I know all this and thought it to be true but someone in a 'higher' position than more pointed out the spelling in some of my articles (a well known fitness/yoga author....) He suggested it should be spelt Yoga.... I had it right all along but it really upset me so I am just being REALLY sure that I am doing the right thing, and it looks like I am

I don't want to discredit this wonderful tradition by making a simple spelling mistake.

Thanks alot for the help and clarity guys.
