I have read in several places that a woman should not practice yoga while menstrating.
Is this true? and if it is why?

thanks !

It's just inversions that are usually referred to as not the best thing to do during that time. Do a search on this site and you'll find plenty of info and check out this link.

Bree - there are many discussions here about practice during menstration. Do a little search and check them out. Basically, it is considered healthier in several ways to do a different practice during menstruation. There is a good one here:http://yogacircle.com/asana_menses.html that you can try. No inversions, no twists, no intense, sweaty stuff. Give yourself a little break and enjoy
