| The asana I am referring to is kneeling on one knee with other leg in front of you at right angle and you are reaching up palms touching in a prayerful manner arching back- actually in full position you would be reaching back perhaps hands almost touching heal of foot of kneeling leg. There is a photo of this posture on pureyoga. Here is that link: http://www.pureyoga.com/
Any assistance with this will be appreciated.

| Just the other day we did it in class, Dan, but I really can't remember what my teach was calling it. Can't find it in my books neither. Let's just wait for the forum's brainies to enlighten us, shall we?

| It is called Anjanaya-asana - The Salutation Pose. Here is a link on the web:

| I usually call it a lunge.
But I have heard it referred to as Chandrasana a/k/a crescent moon pose. I've called it that a few times in class and nobody corrects me.

|
| I've also heard it called a low lunge.
But WOW, can that guy Bend!!!! |

|
| YG, isn't the crescent moon done standing? You're right though, the upper body in this lunge is exctly the same.

| If you do a google image search of chandrasana, you'll see this lunge pose. You'll also see a lot of ardha chandrasana (both the bikram style and the other style). I call the standing lunge "crescent lunge" which I guess would also be Chandrasana.
So I'm of the belief that if you do any lunge with a back bend where your back looks like a crescent, then you can call it chandrasana. And if you do any side bend, you can call it ardha chandrasana. It's not an exact science. It's yoga.
