| Hello! Im new on this board, and somewhat new to yoga. Ive been practicing 4-5 days per week now for about 3 months.
So, today i was in the park just sitting, and i noticed this woman about 50 feet in front of me doing what appeared to be some creative, flowing dance. As i watched, i started to recognize that she was incorporating many standing asanas that i am becoming familiar with. These were definitley asanas, and i noticed how well rooted her standing foot/feet would be as she moved from one pose to the next However, even though her movements were slow and ryhthmic, she didn't hold the poses for more than a second. One pose just seemed to flow into another, and then the next and so on. She was using her hands, head, feet...basically every single inch of her body in an interesting way too, which also seemed to flow right into every pose. Im just curious as to what she was doing, and if this is another style of yoga i have not encountered. It was extremely graceful, strong movement, yet very creative and dynamic and fluid. In a way it reminded me a bit of tai chi, but her movements were more fluid with the use of her whole body.
If anyone has an idea i would really appreciate it and would love to learn more about it...thanks! |

| Maybe it was Tai Chi or some form of martial arts.

| Sounds like exactly what you described :-). Yoga done in a flow, with only a short time in each asana. Yoga done as a dance. Maybe some trance dance elements. I havn't seen it taught anywhere, but some of the lunar flows from Shiva Rea's Yoga Shakti DVD are like that. |

speaking of...
Has anyone ever taken a "trance dance" class or workshop from Shiva Rea/others? i've often wondered what that was all about. |

Location: A Blue State | Geeze, I skipped Shiva Rea's Trance Dance thing when I was at Kripalu.
I just didn't feel like going to a mixer w/o my wife. I probably need to
increase my sleeze factor, no?
This reminds me that there's something called DancKinetics originating
from Kripalu, which is some kind of mixture of yoga and dance. I've never
done it, but it sounds a bit like what was described in the original post.

| yes, it's nice to have your sig. fig. nearby to save the day if you run out of small talk  . i've heard of dancekinetics also...anyone done that?
since my interest was peaked, i posted the same question on another board, but got very vaugeish (but positive)responses. i also learned it can be done blindfolded! if anyone can give a detailed description, please do! |

There are some people teaching DancKinetics outside Kripalu. You can probably
find it locally. |

you're righ BG,.. you'd think there would be some DK classes on boston since kirpalu is relatively close..but no dice. it seems to be a workshop kind of thing- at least right now. |
