Subject: meditation timer

I'm looking for a timer that I can set for various lengths of time that has a 'soft' alarm. Right now we use the kitchen timer and either it's too jarring or sticking it under a balnket we don't here it. Thanks again to all.

Dan, they have fancy expensive ones they sell through Yoga Journal. You might be able to stick some tape over the sound holes in your kitchen one, use a thinner blanket or use a different timer. I use a Timex Ironman watch which has a quieter beep. I have heard of people making silent CD's with music coming on at the end or even using their cell phone's alarm feature with a quiet ring or vibrate. Oh - also heard of using a lamp on a timer so the light comes on instead of noise. Good luck!

That is quite easy. Let me give you one idea. You record one CD, let us you want to sit in Meditation for 20 min and you want to be notified at the 19th minute.

Now, this is what should happen, the CD has 20 min track. First 19 minutes there is NOTHING. And, on 19th minute a soft muusic starts and SO ON. Or you can have a blank track of 19 min. And then 2nd track of 1 min.

ETC ETC.

Dan,
I have an alarm clock that I bought at I think Rite-Aid or Eckard's Pharmacy that has settings for 'ocean sounds', 'rain forest sounds', and I think the sound of a river. I bought it because I hated waking up to regular alarms, but now I use it for meditation too. They aren't too expensive, and they have them at stores like Bed Bath and Beyond, etc. (I don't know what stores there are where you live.) The sounds aren't jarring at all.

Thank you all. The idea of an inexpensive one at Rite Aide, Eckerd's or Linens N Things will be my first. Plenty of them here on Long Ilsand.
