I'm all for a female guru! Just imagine her demonstrating all the bendy asanas! I could live with Angelina happily ever after, as a guru or otherwise .... mmmmmmmmmmm ..... And isn't she actually a yogini anyway? Jennifer Garner? Not my type, sorry. Demi Moore? A bit old don't ya think? Heck, she's even older than me! What about Rosario Dawson? A hottie if I may say so.

Bay Guy - 2005-03-10 10:28 PM What are the attributes that a Guru should have? A calm soul, with profound knowledge, no doubt. One who sees the humor and wisdom in life's misfortunes, especially those associated with falling out of balance poses. One who is self-effacing, perhaps, and not given broad displays of hubris. A person who embodies the principles of yoga. A person who performs asanas with grace. A person who can convince us that we don't need to slaughter our rivals. A person who is not give to strong language or displays of aggression. A person who eats lightly and avoids hard liquor. I've got another proposal. It should be the man that Richard (D***) Butkis calls "Another sensitive big guy."His Stamina's incredible. He is able to deal with life's misfortunes with wisdom and humor. He has to be one of the most flexible people on the planet. He's one who enforces gentle discipline but has an immense heart. Non competative. Not pridefull. Loves everyone. I'm talking about SANTA CLAUS. Sorry he doesn't eat lightly, and I don't know about his drinking habits. But who can teach us better to appreciate the body we have. Expert Yogi Posts: 2479 Location: A Blue State | Whoah, Whoah, Whoah!! So much input!!! Lemme seee..... Okay, Angelina Jolie: the one with the heavily padded bra in those Tomb Raider movies. No Way!!! Better choice: Angela Bassett (remember her playing Tina Turner...she gotta be a yogi). Who said Thomas Crown/Pierce Brosnan? Ugh! I liked the lady he played opposite, Rene Russo...she mussed him up. Sean Connery, well, that's a good prospect: "Shaken, not stirred" (or was is "Stirred, not shaken"?). Demi Moore...can't deal with her...she's annoying...even Bruce Willis thought so, am I right? Someone suggested Homer Simpson...how 'bout Bugs Bunny, instead? I'm most amused that that woman Madonna hasn't been nominated. She can even do Chakorasana (but she needs to work on the inward rotation of the upraised leg). Now, Santa Claus is in another dimension. He's resolved all his karma and has just come back here to be kind to children. He'd be great, but he only teaches one day per year. All of these actors fail on the fundamental requirements: they do not inspire one on the path of yoga. They all shoot or screw people, and that stirs up passions that are inamicable to the yogi's aims. I don't want my guru to inspire me to put a bullet (or anything else) into someone. So NAH!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thursara asks: "are you guys willing to worship your guru?" What's the consensus on this question? We have to talk about worship...is it an offering of prasad, touching the feet...? Maybe if we understand this, we'll get SOME BETTER CHOICES for a guru. I will continue work on our Strategic Plan this week. Did any of you take a cut at the Mission Statement yet? Edited by Bay Guy 2005-03-14 10:42 PM

Expert Yogi Posts: 2479 Location: A Blue State | Ooooo....do we need a web site or not? I spent most of yesterday erecting yet another, mainly for the purpose of declaring turf. It's lovely, but I had better things to do with my time. Web sites are too much work. Let's start thinking about the book instead: Who can model for The Iron John Yoga Murga? Maybe we can find our guru by picking our model. Any suggestions?

Instructor suggestions. Well if they have to be women do they have to meet some criteria, like no "gentle yoga." Based on that most of these women must be vinyassa/power/ashtanga based. Since we want the best studio they must be of national stature. I see two main catetories. The more "experienced" instructors who are highly adaptable and will make guys really sweat; and the possibly slightly less demanding, but will really attract a crowd, "Lookers." For the experienced instructors. Barbara Benaugh Anna Forrest Beryl Bender Birch Desiree Rumbaugh For the lookers Seane Corn Shiva Rhea Sara Ivanhoe Natasha Rizopolos But they have to be clearly told of the guidelines like no incense, no candles and most certainly no aromatherapy.

Expert Yogi Posts: 2479 Location: A Blue State | Bruce, first, you need to find out whether Twisti wishes to model with you. Second, and I had thought that this was obvious, there are NO partner poses in Iron John Yoga Marga.

Certainly no gentle yoga. No [invasive] guided visualization, either. Lookers are OUT! If we are looking, we will not be concentrating on our poses (meaning you will fall out of all your balancings). My theory is that the styled-on yoginis are presenting glam image to women, not posing for men. I did get a little DVD of Natasha in a recent issue of YJ, and she seems like a serious yogini, not just a hairstyle in a leotard. I don't know anything about the other ones, beyond what I see in advertisements. Further, looks alone will inevitably leave you unsatisfied --- in yoga or in whatever it is you hope to gain by looking. Nope, nope, no way. Gotta start with the knowledge and ability, and if looks happen to accompany those, well, you have the opportunity to work on your DRISHTI instead, am I right? N-E-way, the driver for IJYM is that it has to provide all us men with a doorway through which we can leave all the sh!t that gets men down. So how does that fit into this? I have Natasha Rizopolos DVDs - and she is amazing. Incredible upper body strength. Pretty good instruction too. Oh wait - my vote doesn't count. Audrey

How could Twisti Kristi NOT want to model with me? You've seen her asana pictures--looks world class right? Now with me there, she'd look even better in comparison and be a shoo in to be be picked up for YJ--I'd be her stepping stone to fame and sacrifice myself for her dream--am I a yogi or WHAT? Totally altruistic. As far as partner poses--I'm with you boss--don't need 'em. Bay Guy - 2005-03-17 8:55 PM Bruce, first, you need to find out whether Twisti wishes to model with you. Second, and I had thought that this was obvious, there are NO partner poses in Iron John Yoga Marga.
