does anyone know how to get tech assistance here? Whenever I post w/ a quote, the quote gets posted sans my comments.... I think my "straightforward" posts are registering ok...any suggestions are appreciated!

I've given up using the quote feature because I don't find it works too well. But now I understand your non-post posts! Here I thought you were using your signature line as your sole comment on the previous post

Very strange indeed. Actually, the quote function worked for me for the first time ever (in a year of posting!) the other day....Maybe your abilities got transferred to me?

Upcoming eclipse? I knew nothing about this somehow. But it makes sense with everything that's been going on. Everyone I know had the worst week EVER - and every girl I know has had several problems with their cycles this month so something is definitely floating around out there. I'm thinking that the worldwide sadness surrounding the Terri Schiavo case and the illness/death of the pope really affected the energy of the world. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all turn that around and affect it the other way?

Ok, giving it a try here. It seems to me if your copy/paste isn't working it may be your computer rather than the site? Give it a reboot and see what happens.

Edit: so that worked for me. What happens if you go in and use copy/paste to edit after the post is up?

Oh you techies are all alike "Your problem is you are doing it wrong - it worked perfectly for me" is what my husband tells me when I say the computer is doing something weird. He would hate to hear me call him a techie, though - he doesn't play with computers. It is all work for him.

Ah, but you're overlooking the fact that us 'techies' periodically set the It gremlins loose on our more annoying L-users to get our own back

I quoted something in the beginners forum, by copying it straight from the topic, then hitting reply then using the "quote" tags which would be "[.quote] [./quote]" ( without the period ) and it seemed to work fine....like this

I like smelling daisies in the morning!

...bleh..hope that helps..

Hm, works well for me! I just hit the quote button and ... voila! But if for one reason or another it does not work for you, you can always produce the quote yourself. It's no rocket science! Just copy and paste what you wanna quote and put

in front and
at the end.

One question: What browser are you guys using? Although Mozilla's Firefox is far from being perfect it is soooo much better than uncle Bill's Internet Exploiter. And since it's open source it's FREE! Get it and be cool!

firefox is absolutely amazing..nice and secure, no popups, in fact if you use firefox in combination with zonealarm and avg antivirus you are pretty locked down for security.

yeah, if the website you are veiwing is say designed using microsoft frontpage, or the webdeveloper only develops a site for internet 3xpl01t3R then firefox may have a hard time with reading the site and getting the format right, its pretty easy to fix, either dont go to that particular website until they update their code, OR only use IE for that site. Ive noticed that some game sites like pogo.com arent compatible with firefox, so if I really feel like playing a game I just use IE for that websession.

Really though with they way the internet is now a days, you cant be to careful.

Good to know about pogo. I obviously haven't had time to play there since we switched to Firefox. Too much message board - not enough goofing off!

Afro,

Don’t think firefox is god given.. Comparatively its better than IE which is the heaven of spys (Very bad thing)
Fire fox had a major security problem which they sorted only very recently.

thushara,
2 things:

1- at least ONE of those vulnerabilities is an inherent issues with the explorer.exe file that windows uses in its OS to navigate through files. So that flaw is really not browser specific.

2- these vulnerabilities are (mostly)only for users running Windows machines. Linux users are not affected.

AHHHAA ….you are a Linux yogi

You are correct most of the time the problems with windows but it had problems with linux itself too!! And do not forget that most windows users use firefox as the browser.
Have you heard that IE 7 is going be better than firefox ... hey I didn’t dream

Now some of my colleagues argue that opera is better than firefox.
Talking about browsers, IE 6 is out of the way any way (though im a Microsoft lover ) I use opera in my mobile and opera for mobile is pretty cool.

OK, I'm trying again ... if the format of this post is weird - sort of like a run on sentence, it's not my fault!

if you want to highlight and quote something and your quote button doesnt function just add square bracketQUOTEsquare bracket, then copy the text: i.e. Gruvemom - 2005-04-23 5:58 AM.........then at the end of the text : square bracket forward slash QUOTE square bracket

cant speak of pogo, as i am not a gamer BUT i can honestly say that since i started using mozilla forefox and downloaded ad-aware, my pc problems have gone from tons to none. it is definitely worth checking out.

melissa, it will take you minutes to download for the wonderful price of free .
