I would like to read about the use of yoga in treating anxiety. Can somebody share his/her experience and/or give me some references ? Thank you.

Well, I can't tell you from a yoga expert point of view, but I CAN tell you that, as somebody who has suffered severe panic attacks, general anxiety & agoraphobia for half my life (I'm 34), yoga has helped me IMMENSELY.  I just saw my doctor yesterday and she agreed that it is very beneficial.

I would read the article of the month on yoga & ayurveda, however, as it has a lot of interesting information in this area.  And from what I've read & heard, some asanas are more beneficial than others for certain people.  It is my understanding that backbends are stimulating to the nervous system, while forward bends are calming.  However, I'm an extreme novice, so I do hope the "pros" will chime in here and give you better advice.

Good luck in your practice & in soothing your anxiety!

Namaste,

Echo
