Just got back from a relaxing weekend in Florida - 3 days in a little mom & pop motel on Key Largo and 1 day up on North Hollywood Beach. Got a chance to stretch out a bit in the sand just after sunrise yesterday morning, so I thought I'd share the pics!

Sounds like an absolutely wonderful trip!! I probably won't make it to the beach this year, so I can just live vicariously through your pics!! Thanks for sharing.

Jean, I envy your wheel, I unfortunately suck completely when it comes to that specific asana. But my dogs are much better, haha!!!

Thx for sharing the pics. I wish I had the willpower to get up that early and practice on the beach, especially since it's only a stone's throw away from our house.

Now that I look at it, that is certainly not a very well-placed Down Dog! That is always a toughie for me, but practicing in wet sand was more difficult than I had imagined! But quite fun! When I was practicing Bridge (before getting up into Wheel) a big wave came up and soaked me. My husband was holding the camera yelling "look out look out!" But it was so warm and felt GREAT! It made me laugh!

But, going home in wet sandy clothes was not as joyful.

Jean - I was about to critique the poses but immediately thought about the wet sand issue. Didn't think about the waves, though. That would be fun!

Looks like fun! I also will be living the beach life vicariously through these pictures! Makes me miss South Carolina a little bit - I lived right in the middle, so I had a two hour drive to either the mountains or the beach. One week I drove down to the beach 4 times - just couldn't help myself!

And a little PS Jean - it is nice to see another yoga teacher who isn't a size zero, doesn't have long "yoga teacher hair" and is noticeably deficient in the huge lower back tattoo department! Why is it that most of the yoga teachers I know look like you and me but the ones in the magazines don't?

LOL! I actually just cut off a big mane of hair just a few weeks ago! I get bored with my hair pretty fast so I'm sure it will be long again soon . . . or red . . . or purple!

I used to have a lot of issues about not "looking like a yoga teacher" and there are still days when I'd prefer to be shaped more like Twisti! But I had a real eye-opener when I went to my teacher training. One of the trainers was shaped just like me and she was so BEAUTIFUL, I thought "if she is good enough to train new teachers, surely I am good enough to teach!" Then one day I heard her making disparaging remarks about her body, and it made me so sad. I decided right then that I would never be ashamed of my body anymore, especially in front of students. It's up to me to set an example of being proud and healthy and happy at any size!

Every now and then I get tired and cranky and I worry that a new group of students will not think I look like a yoga teacher . . . then I remember, I AM a yoga teacher so I guess this is how it looks! The mind can play such mean tricks on you sometimes . . .

I'm getting a kick out of following you ladies as you discuss body image. I gotta say, I cringed when Glenda wrote, "And a little PS Jean - it is nice to see another yoga teacher who isn't a size zero..."

I went back to the pics and thought, "Wow, Jean's hot and looks tiny!" Then thought, Whatz a size zero look like anyway?"

Well Bruce, apparently a size zero is VERY tiny! Sarah Jessica Parker is reputedly a size zero. I've always been happy to be the person who didn't look like the stereotypical whatever. My hair was geting long awhile ago too, and I was already going to cut it short again when someone told me I was getting "nice long yoga teacher hair" and that just made me want to cut it even sooner! I like to be the one who can say "look at me - I look pretty normal and average and if I can do this, you probably can, too."

Yoga International has a nice, normal looking model right now doing several features. They don't air brush her wrinkles or electronically carve size off her hips. Very nice. That's one of the things I also like about the Cindy Dollar Yoga Your Way book. Normal people doing lovely poses

Jean - you look exactly the way a yoga teacher should!!

Aww, thanks guys! I must admit I don't spend a LOT of time worrying about my dress size - what a waste of time when there are so many fun things to do in this world!

Tooth still hurts - I missed the thread about Toothache Yoga, were there any good suggestions? Funny, it didn't hurt at all on vacation, unless I thought about work! Something to do with clenching my jaws and grinding my teeth perhaps?

sigh...my tattoos are on my UPPER back!

and i had no idea about the long teacher hair!
is mine long enough to qualify?

Q: if i grow my hair longer, will be enough to overcome the tattoo placement and the
"more chips and salsa please" body?

Jeans you look great!
Yoga on the beach is much more romantic sounding than it is in reality. dang shifting sand.

peace.

Dee, your hair definitely qualifies but you're going to have to do something about the tattoo problem

Same deal as s*x on the beach, eh?
