I've been reading in quite a few articles that it's normal practice for Yoga teacher to have sexual relations with their student. I just started yoga and I was shocked to find this out. I hope it's not true.

I think that you are just posting this kind of crap to see whether people
will waste their time responding to it. Are you also posting as Al_Bert_321?

BG/MsDee, I don’t know who this forum user is or I cant remember / have no time to search his /her posts., But Im sure this is what (S)he is talking about

http://www.healingsearch.com/yogis_behaving_badly.htm

“For millennia, the intricate techniques of yoga were passed down from teacher to student in a sacred exchange. But today, in the booming yoga industry, it's (downward-facing) dog-eat-dog.”

Most west yogis argue that they can practice yoga possess and kick off the Yoga philosophy and tradition… So when that happens.. These can be the consequences…

seandre, because of the ignorance of few yoga teachers.. You can’t blame all the yoga teachers and your question sounds stupid enough for others to think that you are a moron !!

Bad guy,

I'm new to this forum so please don't mistake me for someone else. I raise an important issue that is destroying the yoga community in America. Did you read the baptiste post?

How can the actions of a few isolated individuals ruin the community of yoga in America? I'm sure we've all worked in places where people have had inappropriate relationships. I certainly don't condone any of the (alleged) actions, as I do feel that there is a special relationship between teachers and students, but I don't take that as a reflection on all yoga practioners in the country.

These are well known yoga teachers, not just the action of a few beginners.

I read the Baptiste article, which was more about greedy behavior and the breakup of a financial partnership - not sex. The fact that Mr. Baptiste may have behaved inappropriately with a student was neither proven nor the focus of the article. Sure, it might be true, but any controversy over that seems to be getting blown out of proportion here.

Certainly it must happen in isolated cases (teachers getting involved with students), but I personally have never met any teacher who didn't find the very idea quite appalling. As noted above, there are people who can't control their impulses in any field. You'd hope that yoga teachers would hold themselves to a higher standard, but we can only control our own behavior - not that of others.

Seandre, you say mention "quite a few articles" stating that this is a "normal practice." I would be very interested to read these articles, because I've been practicing yoga for 10 years and this is news to me. Please post links so we can all read the same information.

The only morals I can find here is if the student is under age.

When two adults who share a passion get involved with each other how can that be a bad thing?
Ethics maybe but not morals.

True - I was thinking "ethics" but this does say morals. Good point!

I have heard of a few cases where a teacher and student might even fall in love and get married. As long as they are consenting adults and there aren't pre-existing spouses in the equation, there's no problem with that.

what about all the ladies who go to yoga class specifically to look at their hottie yoga teacher? my girlfriends in the states are totally guilty of this!

the good thing about what has happened to yoga in the states - there is a class and a like-minded teacher for everyone.

i dont think we should be judging people for their behaviours. if your personal practice includes yamas and niyamas and you want a like minded teacher - then you must search one out (or wait until he/she finds you )

at the end of the day, we are all fallible.
