Subject: yoga and arthritis

I used to do yoga in a class four days a week for an hour. Now Rheumatoid arthritis has set in in my back and I have been away from my yoga practice for 2 years. I want badly to begin again but what form should I start with? I realize I will never do the Bikram classes again. I realy do not want to start as a begginner again. Would appreciate any suggestions!

Hi Maudie - I used to know someone with that name - she taught me piano A practice where the poses are held individually and not done in "flow" or in heat would be best. Also, a style where the practice can be individualized would be important for you. I (and many but not all on the board) usually suggest Iyengar or Anusara, and you may want to look for someone who does theraputic, special needs or medical yoga. The names of the classes vary. you will need practices for when you are feeling good and different ones when you are inflamed. If you tell us where you are we may be able to help with more specific studios or teachers.
