hi all. just wanted to give a report on my recent trip to Omega institute and my massage training with Lotus Palm.

Omega: very cool people, foods good, great bookstore, library and cafe. large campus with a beautiful meditation area called Sanctuary. my only issue was when I was leaving some important guy there gave me terrible directions to the thruway, using directions based on north, east, etc, (like i have a compass in my car) and was kind of impatient when i asked questions.

Lotus Palm: My teachers were awesome! the best workshop i have ever attended. It was very focused on learning and the laid back calm energy from the teachers helped keep things from getting out of hand with 50 students. the teaching setup was as follows: the massage was broken down into 6 sections. each section was demo'ed, demo'ed again, then we praticed on each other being led, then after lunch practiced on each other from the beginning without being led. very organized and controled.

i can't wait to finish the training in montreal!!! BTW, any canadians with helpful hints on Montreal? where to stay, eat, etc?

Anya

Michelle - I have spent something like 3 hours in Montreal and that was in 1979 so I am no help at all! But be prepared for one and two dollar coins - loonies ($1 and they have a loon on the back - hence the name) and twoonies (because they were introduced later and why not rhyme them, eh?) and lots of "Franglais" to be spoken. Apparently shop owners etc. will know to speak to you in English before you even open your mouth. They just know. You should eat some poutine but not before class - fries with gravy and chunks of cheese curd - artery blocking heaven in a paper tray but Yummy! Donairs are not related to doughnuts. Actually, I have forgotten what they are but not doughnuts - think savoury. We don't have them in the west at all. Montreal smoked meat sandwiches - awesome! Like pastrami. Oh yeah - madness on the roads. They drive like real French people there! This I remember clearly. Have fun!

Did you go to Montreal yet?

If not, I have lots of suggestions.

If so, how was it?

Anya's taking a hiatus, there's another thread on it somewhere around here.

Wow! At the time Anya posted, I had no idea what Thai massage was. Now - if I may introduce myself - I work at the Lotus Palm School in Montreal. I'm both a pracitioner and the product manager, so if anyone has any questions about Lotus Palm, bring 'em on!

I can only hope Anya went on to complete her studies :-) but for those who, like me, might happen upon this thread in 2008, here's the latest:

Lotus Palm is offering it's 5-day Thai Yoga Massage 1 course at the Omega Sueno Azul resort in Costa Rica, in March 2008 with teacher Shai Plonski, and its Essential Certification Program in the Bahamas at Sivananda with Lotus Palm founder Kam Thye Chow in February.

We've got a packed calendar with a Level 1 course starting every month, a great shop with unique Thai massage accessories, and a *free* Thai massage magazine that you can download from our Thai Massage Library. And, to get back to one of Anya's questions, our website also has a page with all sorts of neat stuff to do when Studying in Montreal, where to eat, etc.

That's all for now, your questions are welcome.
Stephanie
