Subject: 1ST CHAPTER OF THE YOGA SUTRAS

Jivamukti Yoga and The Three Jewels present the 1st chapter of the Yoga Sutras
November 1-10, 2005,

with John Brady and Ruth Lauer-Manenti

For those who have a hunch that their minds are "in the way" of a panoramic vision, the first chapter offers methods to quiet the mind so that it is no longer in the way.

Practice (Abhyasa)
Through practice, you take a method that your lama gives you to make your mind whole and you do it DAILY.

Detachment (Vairagya)
The yogi experiences a thinning of desires for things due to the realization of ones unique and universal inner treasure. The Yogi cares more about the value of their heart than their house.

Devotion (Ishvara prani dhanad va)
Devotion keeps you from hurting others; the source of your future suffering. A group of people are in a room gossiping and you walk in tempted to join in. Just before opening your mouth you feel devotion to a higher purpose, you remember the words of your lama about how divisive speech creates separation within your world. Out of your devotion you refrain.

Through these methods what is underneath that which appears is revealed. The vision is clear not blurred. Your hunch leads you to enlightenment.
