Subject: dumb question.what are kriyas?

I've seen some kundalini sites that mention them, but i can't seem to find a clear definition of what they are.. they haven't been mentioned so far in my other hatha or vinyasa classes.

can anyone point me to some good info?

thank you!

They are cleansing exercises, generally, things like Nauli Kriya (stomach churning).

Hey there! First, I would just like to say: The only dumb questions are the unasked ones.
Although different types of yoga define "kriya" in different ways, the Kundalini Yoga definition of kriya is defined as a yoga set (a series of yoga exercises) or meditation that involves:
1. Mantra - a mantra is a repetitive chant that creates a steady sound current to stimulate certain glands in your brain to secrete.
2. Mudra - a posture or hand position (usually thumb to one of the fingers) that again is meant to stimulate certain glands in your brain to secrete.
3. Breath - self explanatory
(this is not in order of importance)
I hope this helps

thank you all! I'd heard a bit about the first two kriya definitions that bay guy and ravi supplied, but it seemed to be discussed differently in reference to kundalini practice. very enlightening! i wonder if there are other definitions of the word Kriya out there?
