fifi:

nope, not at all. i was simply putting forth an idea or theory that i've heard about Jesus, not attributing it to you.

I personally have issues with Jesus being mythological because it invalidates "I am the way the truth and the life, no man come to the father but by me." In this case he identifies himself as the living example. I'd have similar issues with Buddha being a myth, or patanjali, or any of the other saints. It means that the aim of the Great Work is not necessarily obtainable.

i disagree with this perspective. To me, Jesus was a living example of what is spiritually attainable, but what was attained was described in mythological or symbolic language because it actually defies any sort of logical or intellectual description.

therefore, it makes the message of that scripture--among others--all the more potent.

interpretation is everything

unfortunately over the thousands of years that we've been interpreting, we've also been rewriting and changing words, removing stories, and ultimately changing meaning.

My boss's wife can read acient Greek and Aramaic and Hebrew, and was granted a scholarship at Johns Hopkins in Maryland to get her doctorate studying the acient manuscripts.

Her opinions about the original texts are very worthwhile considering when considering your personal interpretations of what really is

But, really, most of the original stuff that didn't jibe with the head in Rome was removed from the archives and burned.

So, there

i was lucky to take latin in high school, learn hebrew from a rabbi, and greek from my priest all in the same four years. i was able to translate the bible myself, a bit of the talmud, and a number of various early church documents. obviously, not the actual, but 'copies' of them.

it is an interesting exercise. you learn a lot more about the texts that way, for certain.

ask your rabbi

or read what you can get a hold of

or this one is pretty darn good, and highly regarded amongst some of my aquaintances and friends and brethren that i've spent time with in the temple

cool, thanks.

i haven't spoken to my rabbi in over 10 years. after i graduated from high school, i moved from Arkansas to Pennsylvania, and pretty much lost contact with him and the buddhist community there.
