I am going for my certification to be a personal trainer, and  am wondering what the general opinions there are out there about the different certification organizations.  I am taking the ACE certification test (which I have taken in the past), which from what I can gather is the most widely know, but there are so many out there that I am wondering if ACE is the most reputable.  Is anyone here a personal trainer?  If so, who are you certified with.  Also, if anyone here has a trainer or has used one in the past, were there any particular certifications you looked for?

Thanks!

Samantha

I am certified by USA Weightlifting, NSCA-CSCS and CrossFit. I think ACE is bunk, but if it gets you in shape, then more power to you.

ACE teaches you to count reps for people. I am concerned with creating/training athletes for performance. It's a totally different mindset. You'll definitely get work with ACE, it's widely recognized in all commercial gyms. You should be aware that you are going to be working to get people's butts and abs to look smaller and better which is great but it's not the same as training an athlete to run faster, throw farther, lift heavier or jump higher.
