| First of all - OUCH!!!!! I know that when my teacher had knee surgery she spent a lot of time lying on her back with her legs up the wall. It helped circualtion, improved the swelling and helped her relax. Good luck! |

| How did the injury occur please?
What was the breadth of your partners yoga practice before the injury?
What sort of fracture was invloved?
Is the leg now imobilized? Casted?
How old is this pitta?
I'd like some more information please.

Lots of swelling..
He is a beginners level, Hatha student. (Very fit sportsman)

| Tashi - and I did not say that you should of course be clear that even legs up the wall is safe and ok for him to do. I have no idea whatsoever what a broken knee cap would be like, though I do remember a girl from school having her knee cap dislodged and go (as the high school rumour mill reported it) around to the back of her knee Why I remember that more than 30 years later, I have no idea....I could use that brain space to remember something much more important, I'm sure |

| Okay great feedback thank you.
Now remember this is based on what you've told me, only that.
The knee cap needs to be set in proper position to heal. Bone tends to be stronger after break, assuming the owner of said bone gives it the proper respect and time to heal.
What your partner can do now is some pranayama - but basic stuff; Perhaps Viloma One or Ujjayi. It would obviously be done in a supine postition. Have him start with just a few minutes, perhaps 3-5 minutes then return to normal breathing.
Additionally getting his mind right will help tremendously. The energies need to be focused on healing. Not will I heal or will I ever... but I will heal. I will have a healthy knee. Energetically the knee represents our flexibility to move forward in our lives. So from that level it might be effective for him to look at what lessons his knee is trying to share. And then listen!
Dietary change will also support his return.
I can't get into this in deail but the diet must be one that works with his body, not one that comes from someone else. That is to say the foods he eats should be determined by how they affect HIM. If he eats and feels sleepy he may be making the wrong combinations choices etcetera...

| You'll want to ground the pitta nature?
Okay. From a nutrition standpoint there are foods that calm and root. You'll just have to find what foods do this for YOUR pitta.
Also the grounding poses. Since he will not be able to do standing poses for a while you can try a savasana with the feet at the base of the wall, assuming his cast or whathaveyou allows for this.
