SCThornley - 2006-10-12 11:39 AM cussing wow well the intent is well taken. Physical Practice, not theory is the way. The intent may be good, but I couldn't finish the article. To me the blogger came across as being extremely angry, and hard on himself. I don't think this is yoga, I think this is the western competitive mind, which is constantly beating itself up, and pushing too hard. I already have a problem with this, I don't need it re-enforced. I also felt that the cussing really just illustrated where he was coming from, which was a very unpleasant place. I've seen people curse before to good effect, but usually it's done singling to dramatic effect. When it's done in the manner used by this blogger, it's usually more indicative of ignorance, and anger than any higher conciousness.

Expert Yogi Posts: 8442 | I agree, GJ. I wasn't sure what his point was because all I coudl read was this anger coming through. I also am not averse to cussing, but it needs to be used for effect. Though I must say, if someone is blogging as an exercise in journalling mostly as a personal journey, then whatever. But if you want to reach ME I would be turned off withthis sort of thing as a constant diet.

OK, that maybe the intent, I understand that, but the blogger seems like they are in a rough patch so, good luck to them.

Expert Yogi Posts: 8442 | The first time I read the Gita, all I could see it was saying was PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. Maybe Krishna should have simply told Arjuna "just do it." Not exactly a poem - not even a haiku - but might have got the job done a little quicker!

I found it quite interesting to read his earlier posts. He seems like a person committed to working on himself. Maybe he is just having a bad week.

Hi it's me, the blogger. Yeah, I was angry. Mainly at the part of myself that tries to keep me down and tell me what I can't do. It helps to get it out of the mind and onto the page. Perhaps it does not help others to have to read it though. Speaking for myself, however, I never would have had the nerve to come to Mysore if it had not been for Alan Little's blog, which revealed that mere mortals are welcome here too. Even sometimes angry ones! Namaste everybody.

I love the honesty of russells writing, and have for a while, ever since I stumbled into ( onto? ) the blog when i was doing a search on Mysore. Read some of the previous posts, the context really, really helps enhance appreciation of this current piece. I highly recommend it as a bold ( and very well written, I must say) documentation of an earnest seeker- warts, glories and all. Thanks for blogging, russell! Now we have the internet!?!

I just read that. At first I was like, "Whoa!" but I have to say I LIKE it! We all have excuses for not practicing and we all have these bad, self loathing days but, man, just DO IT!!! If you're looking for a reason not to practice there will ALWAYS be one. Just shut up and do it! Not every practice is going to be a good one. Some days you will suck and suck bad. Do it anyway. Put your body in motion and your mind will follow. It's great advice. So what if he cusses? Perfect yogis don't cuss? They don't get mad? They don't have PMS and negative thoughts in traffic? Come on! This is REAL yoga for REAL people!!!
