Location: London, England | Hi Mickis, my advice is, go to the teachers of the classes that teach the style you want to learn, and if you respect the teacher's views and opinions on yoga, ask them where they trained. then go on a few weekend workshops in that style, perhaps culminating in workshops which are geared towards teachers. Then you get to work with other teachers, which can also be very useful in the future-support, etc. If the style of yoga you wish to teach gives a formal teaching certificate in your country, then you have it made. otherwise you may have to travel abroad to go to a centre which gives formal qualifications. I live in England, and do not have a qualification in yoga, other than I have been practicing for twenty years. I have not found lack of qualifications to be a problem, but I know that in some countries it may be more problematic. And I've no doubt that a number of students prefer to see a formal qualification, so it's best to get one if possible, I think. Problem for me is, I have never found a course that really bites, so I have been cautious about devoting the time. like I said, doing some workshops will give you an idea if you like teaching, before you commit to a two year course. I would have thought that most good courses would be about this length of time, so it's quite a commitment. Have fun, good luck, Nick

Nick! Thank you for your tip! Sounds like a good plan! I was thinking the same thing, I have to be sure before I start a 2 years class! I love yoga and hopefully I can learn a lot in the 2 month with diffrent classes, or courses that im planing to take! Im a girl who loves to travel and would like to put this to things togheter! As i said, I have 2 month and would like to go some place where the ticket is not to expensive and where I can live with not to much money! Like Thailand or Bali or something! Any tip for that? Location: London, England | Hi Mickis, Sorry, no tips on Bali, But I'm sure an internet seach would sort that out On the workshops there may also be people in the know. Maybe you could get in touch with organizations like Triyoga in London to find out if they have jobs which might let you attend classes workshops for free, reduced rate. I don't think they would let you sleep on the yoga mats, though. That way, world famous teachers would visit the centre, and you would get a wide education in this esoteric world. Nick

Miksi, I'm with jonnie on this, you should consider going to mysore in india to visit the the leading exponent of ashtanga Jois and the leading practitioner his grandson Sharath. Visits are minimum of one month, you have two! you want cheap ticket and travel what better than india. you want to become ashtanga teacher, Jois is the only person to officially 'authorise' teachers. Each country does have its own system for recognising teachers like in England we have the Britsh Wheel of Yoga Teachers, but the authorisation/certification from Jois is internationally recognised.

Hi DownwardDog, I would really recommend Brian's course. He is definately one of the UK's hidden yoga treasures. Even if you dont do the full programme, his weekend workshops on adjusting or back bends, etc are also worth the trip up from London. Did you attend Pattabhi Jois' London workshops this year?

Hey there, I want to do Brian's 3 week intensive, as I'm not located in scotland so the one run over time isn't ideal for me. I missed out on the pattabhi jois workshops, but I'm going to Mysore in a week for a month to practice with him so I'm making up for it in a way
