| Hello everyone.
I like to have a little raffel in my classes at Christmas, and pull out a name for a little present. I was thinking about giving everyone a little something this time, and was wondering if any of you have experienced some really nice or unusual incense? I was thinking about giving everyone a Nag Champa stick to try.
Can you recommend any other mini gifts? |

Location: Somewhere in the Mountains of Western NC | First of all, I don't expect a gift from my teacher, I give a gift to her.
However, small mini gifts. Incense, especially Nag Champa is not something I would give out. Not everyone likes incense and Nag Champa is honestly, the worst toxic incense on the market.
Personally, I like a free class. It is the best gift of all and is the one I usually get from my yoga teacher, even though I don't expect it. |

| I wouldn't do anything scented. So many people hate it. Iyengar students like props - an eye bag is nice  But a free class sounds really nice! |

| Absolutely the free, perhaps holiday-centered, class--I look for any opportunity to wear my Santa hat.

| I went to a workshop last april where we were given a bag of nice tazo tea and a small scented candle (tea-light). it came with a little phrase that was something inspirational. i thought it was nice.
I usually have a little party for my clients at the neighborhood club house. we have a little free yoga class (45-60 mins), followed by food (soup, bread, fruit, beverages), and time to chat, meet other people, etc. Typically, everyone talks about yoga. It's a really good time. I enjoy doing it--and it's not hard to make soup for 20 or 30 people honestly. The real nice thing is that the club house has a full kitchen, so i actually make the soup fresh there--and it's bubbling away while we're doing yoga.

| Best to use caare before some yoga practicing Rabbi offers to sue you for a holiday slant.
Chemically sensitive is definately a concern. And there have been soem recent studies on the carinogenic nature of incense (in non ventilated spaces). I've had a couple teacher smear something on me in savasana or balasana at the end of a "vinyasa" class. I think it's well intentioned but not at all mindful.
I don't give gifts at a special point inthe calendar. If I want to give students a gift there's no reason I wouldn't do it in March - other than my own projections and my students are not me. So they may not have the same holiday. the same feeling, and that rasises some relational questions between teacher and student.
But do what you think is best and I'm sure whatever that is will have it's fuzzies. |

I would like a new Zojirushi 5-cup Rice Cooker, a bottle of Cartier Delicacies Perfume, and my son's College Tuition to be paid in full for this and next semester and that he not be so stressed when he comes home for the holidays till' February!!! Last but not least, please put all these greedy developers that are tearing down all our beautiful trees and mountains in North Carolina and "you know who,  ", on the NAUGHTY LIST!!!!

My sister (CB) knows me well. The only person who can touch me that much will be Nancy. But, I accept ZB's massage mentally and am waiting on BBB's airline tickets physically.

Zoebird: I must apologize with you for not accepting the Thai Massage. Actually, I do not see anything wrong with that at all. Actually, the wrong is with me. I am a little weird and refrain from touching other women than my wife in whichever way. It took me few years to learn a comfortable hand-shake. Also, it took me longer than 4 years to look into eyes of a woman during my office work. I have overcome all that. But, I am sure i shall not overcome the massage part.
Why not give me some other gift? Anyway, I shall take your video which you are sending as a gift. |

please recognize that my assertion ws not a criticism of your needs and boundaries. it ws just an expression in case there was any confusion about what i was offering. I know that many eastern peoples (thai included) are very modest, private people. i respect this.

Another massaged my shoulders with so Biofreeze during forward bend (not so bad ;) Intention taken, but very bad practice unless the subject has given permission. |

| One can't help but wonder if it's Ego or ignorance on the part of the teacher when this happens.
Obviously you'd have to be living in a cave to not know about chemical sensitivities, diversity, alergies, and preferences, not to mention Saucha. How about that teacher who goes from student to student touching their forehead in Savasana without washing their hands? It's a germ smorgasborg.
So how is it these teachers of awareness can overlook something so visible?
It does seems that somtimes teachers so what's best for them rather than what's best for the students.

| Purna - some of these are the same people who have big signs up in their studios asking people to not wear perfume to class because of allergies  and I have been in a studio that had very smelly incense burning because someone had come in wearing perfume and they wanted to cover it up... |
